Ana - Wash

I have read the Aanheim is looking for another top 4 D-Man
With that in mind How about Tom Poti he is making 3.5M next season and then will be a UFA.

The Caps D is full of Shot blocking D-Men and not checkers, I think Poti is very good at this job but with the Caps giving Schultz a 4 year 11M dollar contract I think it is fair to the Caps have their overpaid soft D-MAN

so how about Poti and Bouchard for Deschamps.

The Caps blueline needs some toughness

I think Poti would help Anaheim but I am under the assumption they want someone younger.

Deschamps may be a very good player, but it makes the Caps blueline even younger than it already is, which at this point, is not a good thing.

Poti is not that much of a top 4 Dman capability. Move along.

Poti has been every bit worth his contract in DC. If he was moved it would be for a different skill set not because of poor performance. Plus he is one of the only vet D the Caps have.

Poti is too important right now. He may not be an elite d-man, but he does his job. He is the only vet we have.

The Caps shouldn't be moving any d-man not named Sloan or Erskine.

Also the Ducks can't just take that much salary without sending some back.

he's the #2 d-man on a 3-time division winner. How is he not a top 4 d-man?

Budget and saving money for Ryan's contract. We have around 10 mill before we start to run into the budget, take 5 for Ryan, 2 for Selanne, and 3 for wiz and its all gone. Even if there was an extra 3.5 in there some of that would need to be saved in case Ryan gets offer sheeted for 6-6.5.

He's more like the #3-4 on a team that plays defense sporadically in a ****** division.

That said, bad deal for Washington.

Poti has pretty much always been our #2...

Aside from his awful positioning on 5-on-3's he's more than solid, regardless.

If the Caps were to move Poti that frees up 3.5M with that they would be able to sign (in a perfect world)

Grebeshkov for 2.4M and Mara for 1.1M

The Caps D get a bit more Physical and would have more depth.
Montreal D was a swarm in the playoffs the blue-crew threw 145 hits and had 268 blocks.
Markov, Montreal #1 D-man, only played in 8 games

Everyone had to up their games, since Markov was not there to pick up the slack
I would say everyone did a great job ... heck Marc-Andre Bergeron threw out 19 hits in 19 games BRAVO!!!!

I think Washington would be in much better shape if their D got tougher.

Ok, I only took into account salary cap not internal budget.

Unfortunately the Ducks needs to add a Top 4 dman. We will either have to pay for one in UFA or pick one up in a trade like this. Certainly the Ducks would rather optimize their budget and move a winger, but based on your internal cap argument, we can't afford to pick up another Top4 dman either.

I don't know if Tom Poti is what the Ducks are looking for, but I don't think the Ducks would veto the trade purely on being unable to move a bad contract back to the Caps.

If we move Blake, or some other salary we could pick one up. However at this point i'm fairly certain we are going to roll into the season with Sbisa slated into the top 4.
