Any interest in Kyle Wellwood?

does anyone have interest in kyle wellwood?
we could possibly have him and eric down the road as two energy 3rd liners. Plus usually having brothers on a team increases both of their play...

so...any interest?

League minimum if we trade Gagne for all futures?

Maybe.

I'm sure there are better options though.

i guess it comes down to do we want to pick up an oldie for a rental (3years probably) or do we want someone who still has potential...wellwood's a guy who has gotten flak for his conditioning...i dont see that as a problem with lavvy. PLUS he's a real team player, if we got him...he'd be the next upshall.

I really like the guy and if it would be a shorter term (2years max) under 1mil per I'd love it.
Not sure if he could find a niche on this team though.

Did you really just call Kyle Wellwood as an energy-third line player? An energy third line player skates fast and hits everything that moves. Kyle is none of these. He's a skill player that isn't skilled enough to play in the top-6. He has great hands but is slow, fat and slow.

So no. No interest at all.

i think he could also work with giroux/JVR or briere/leino for the record he is a fast player, and he lost something like 15lbs of fat then put on 5lbs of muscle...hes certainly NOT lazy, and while he doesnt hit everything he does bring energy to his linemates. (i know for sure giroux brings energy to almost every shift, even though he doesnt hit that much) also wellwood is much faster than a leino type, but STILL i want to see what he can do with his bro.

I like the fact that he is a right handed centerman with decent size who has grit and some scoring ability. If the last piece to fit into the lineup is third line center, and if he would sign for less than $1.7ish, sure, I'd have interest.

Only for the meltdown it would cause on here if we signed another NHL non-goalie.

I'd rather try to get a solid and cheap winger out of the Gagne trade like a Stafford.

Hartnell - Richards - Zherdev
Stafford (or other winger) - Carter - Briere
vanRiemsdyk - Giroux - Leino

For league minimum to $1.00m I'd take him.

20 goal potential next to JVR and Roo? Gimme.

Canucks is my hometown team, so some info on Kyle.

Pros: He is a magician with the puck, ie: Rob Schremp, Giroux, very creative and great offensive hockey sense. Would easily be the best faceoff man on the team.

Cons: He is terrible defensively, is not physical, and will disappear offensively for many stretches.

Conclusion: He is a center, and we already have enough of those?

Sounds like Leino, only a center.

Maybe if we could get him here at settle him at wing he could mooch a bit off some of our talents.

If you're looking for an obvious whipping boy, sure.

Kyle Wellwood has untapped talent because he has the worst work ethic of anyone currently playing in the NHL.

Why does everyone just say no right away he's a good player has some work ethic(not the best but more than you guys act like he does) and can do well with some talented players for not a lot of money. I was actually wondering if we could get him last night and I thought it would be a good idea

Wellwood is great in the circle, but is a center which is our problem, we have TOO many.

Because Wellwood is a piece of crap and we have a full slate of forwards already - and some guys in the Phantoms who are going to be NHL ready sooner than later, if not already.

Let him ruin another team's chances. No thanks.

Kyle Wellwood has quickly become an excellent defensive player, which is the only reason he was able to hold down the 3rd line center spot, since despite those magic hands he simply has not been able to produce consistently. His foot speed has improved quite a bit in his tenure as a Canuck, and to be honest I would say he has above average speed. The 1.2 mil or whatever we paid for him was well worth it imo, I would love for the Canucks to sign him cheap, and give him a chance to earn a spot next year if they could. If not he would likely be picked up on waivers if the money is right.

No. He was able to hold the 3rd center spot because he is a beast in the faceoff circle, and he is the only other guy with some offensive talent they have down the middle after Sedin and Kesler. His defense is on par with Briere's, which is terrible in alot of ppl's minds....

I like him, but he's not what we need at the moment. I saw a fair share of Vancouver games last year and if guys like Bernier and Demitra at least would have had half decent production Wellwood's numbers would have been significantly better. He set up quite a lot of scoring chances that were simply wasted away.
