If Smith is healthy and has his head on straight, everyone here will be enamored with his ability. Trust me. If he can come back from his concussion and be the Mike Smith that I've seen rob the Flyers time and time again, he will be a huge upgrade.

I think Mike Smith is on par with what was available in the FA market. Let's see the complete deal before the tears start falling.
I don't feel like Smith is much of an upgrade on what we have now, AND we have to trade for him. If you could get a 1st and a prospect for Gagne and use the cap relief to sign Turco (or God forbid had we done it earlier and signed Ellis or Mason) we'd be re-stocking some of the bare shelves AND have our starting goalie.

I just have a BAD feeling about this deal, but I'll wait and see who the prospects they include are to pass judgement....

**** Holmgren. If we dont win the cup this year his ass better be toast.

I dont mind Mezaros, but like the Carle 2 years ago, it was just uneeded cap addition. He should have traded Carle, and kept Mezaros.

Gagne should have been a career flyer

Smith is better than Leighton, if he is healthy. He was great for tampa before his concussion problem

A healthy Smith playing to his ability is an improvement... he also can play the puck, which will take a LOT of pressure off our D in retrieval. He has not, however, found a groove of displaying his talent at this level...

That's a whole lot of ifs. And if he isn't healthy, the Flyers are stuck with the same old ****** tending, but with less goal scoring support.

Meanwhile, Holmgren could have had a real goalie, but sat on his thumb while a bunch of legit goalies signed for peanuts elsewhere.

I'm disgusted with how this offseason has gone. And a bit heartsick - a talking mule could have managed this offseason better.

I'm surprised at how many of you are shocked at this and how many of you under-value Smith.

We all saw this coming, I mean we've been talking about it for weeks now.

I did all my *****ing while I was pointing out how ******** Homer's off-season was. Kind of got over the sadness of trading Gags a while ago.

How could an offseason that required absolutely no desperation turn into one filled with it?

**** you, Homer.

You mean the guy who had a 0.900 sv% and a 3.09 GAA in 42 GAMES!

That guy?

How could I undervalue him?

I'm as pissed as anyone about how he's ****ed up this offseason, but he's done what he's done. Nothing we can do about it, piss and moan about it all you want, it's over. It was ********, but if he gets Smith, it's a step in the right direction.

Look at the ****ing defense he played with

Hedman(raw rookie)-Ohlund(decent 2nd pair guy)
Meszaros(sucked)-Lundin(decent 3rd pair guy)
Foster(PP specialist)-Walker(mediocre 3rd pairing guy)

Their defense blew out the ass. Smith is a talented goalie that would do wonders with our team.

Gags and Smith both have concussion issues but, ya know, Gagne actually proved himself in the NHL before he got hurt...

Yeah, again, I'm not sure how you guys didn't realize how bad this off-season was before.

There's a few "ifs" involving Smith, but our whole area of goaltending is nothing but a bunch of "ifs" as it is anyway. Smith is a lot better then Boucher and definitely better then Leighton.

Having less goal-scoring support isn't a knock against Smith. That's all on Homer.

And you cant use the "his team sucked" comment cause ****ing Nitty had a .909 sv% 2.87 GAA in 49 games.

Homer took a straightforward offseason and made it look like the last 20 minutes of Inception.

I don't want Smith. A good prospect and a 2nd would be better.

Why? Our team is going to be better on paper and on the ice than last year, and we were very good last year. And we'll have some cap room and more prospects.

The third pairing of the D is vastly improved. Goaltending will be better, if only marginally. Forwards will be improved too, as long as Giroux and JVR continue to develop, and Zherdev plays as expected (25-30 goals).

We've got a several young stars up front, 3 solid vets and 3 solid young D, and better goaltending than last year.

What's wrong with that? It's obvious that Gagne was open to being traded, I wish him well.

I would have liked to see Turco added, but they must think they have better options.
