Even though this guy never even put on the jersey for the Oil it's safe to say I'm pretty bitter about this ones lol.

Not me. I couldn't have been happier when we traded away that headcase. He's Carolina's problem now.

Riley Nash is a headcase? I've met the guy and that's news to me.

i dont understand.....why is he a headcase, and why is he our "problem" now? and dont say its cause he didnt wanna sign with he Oil. I think he did, they just didnt have a spot on the big team he could even compete for, which seemed pointless when he could just stay at Cornell and finish a degree. Carolina, on the other hand, has a huge spot open and he is now the best candidate for that spot, so even if somehow he doesnt make it right away, I bet he gets some time there for a while this season. and that is a LOT more inticing and worth not going back to school...

question still stands....why is he a headcase?

Nash is not a headcase. Take it from someone who knows him personally. No idea where that came from.

I wonder what caused Nash to jilt the Oilers. Carolina obviously didn't have a problem signing him looking at the rather low contract he got.
Supposedly it was because the Oilers organization criticized everything Nash did, from the school he chose to his decision to stay in school.

Fans just think that because he didn`t follow the developmental path EDM wanted him to and their relationship soured. I think he made the right choice.

Nash probably would have been traded at some point anyways as he is actually fairly far down the depth chart as hard as it is to believe the Oilers now have a ton of depth in their prospect pool.

He's a headcase in that he thinks he's better/more important then he is. He didn't progress at all in the 3 years he was at Cornell(numbers or size) and wouldn't sign here because he didn't think he had a good enough chance of stepping right into the NHL. He didn't want to compete for a spot, he wanted it on a silver platter, despite no advancement since he was drafted. We've had enough of that kind of attitude here.

But this is a Carolina thread, so I won't derail it further. I just wanted to give some voice to the Oilers fans that are glad he's gone.

Francis see anything special in Nash.

So, i think is good move for Canes.

Nash seems very mature kid.

Sounds an awful lot like us after the way the Jack Johnson situation played out.

I'm glad to have him here, but definitely don't blame a single Oilers fan for hating on the guy right now. It's a completely understandable feeling having been on the other side of the coin.

A guy who refuses to sign with the team that drafted him, just because he doesn't want to compete for a spot with the other young guns is a downright loser.

Have fun Hurricanes.

The guy knew he wasn't good enough to make the Oiler roster and wasn't convinced that he actually had to prove otherwise.

Good riddance. Doubt he sticks around in the NHL long.

Hopefully this makes Canes fans feel better about the JMFJ thing. Maybe in 4 years, there will be another prospect who doesn't want to sign with his team and he will be traded and signed by the Oilers.

This. I could understand a money issue but because he didn't want to compete to move up depth chart reeks of poor character

Would rather have Marincin, I hope Riley Nash becomes a career ECHLer.

Very, very few Canes fans are still upset about that trade. Gleason has become a fan favorite and leader on the team.

Plus, I'm not that sold on Jack Johnson. I know people criticize the +/- stat to no end, but Johnson has had the Kings' worst +/- the past two seasons, and his -19 in 2007-08 was only topped Handzus' -21. He is nothing but a liability in his own zone, and I don't think he's offensively gifted enough (at this point, though he showed flashes last season) to justify being that bad in his own zone.

Johnson has a much higher ceiling than Gleason and could end up being an amazing defenseman, but as it stands right now I would take Gleason on my team over Johnson every day of the week.

I was never big on Riley Nash.

Taking him at #21 was a joke. It's kind of funny. We traded the 30th and 36th to the Coyotes to move up and grab him. The Coyotes admitted later that they made the trade because they were confident they could draft Nash at #36.
