New Jersey's problem

Interesting blog: http://www.inlouwetrust.com/2010/7/2...-now#storyjump

We seem to have a bunch of lower paid forwards. Anyone see an opportunity for Poile to trade a couple and a first rounder for Zajac? Would he fit here?

If we wanted a forward, we should have went after Gagne. He went for crap, is on a one year deal, and is a legitimate 40 goal scorer if healthy. Of all the available players by trade, he should have been or target.

Awards:
We are not trading Zajac at all, he is pretty much untouchable.

we couldnt add gagnes contract even for one year without moving dumont, which, wouldnt do NJ any good because it wouldnt save them enough money.

Your absolutely right. I was just pointing out that the guy we would have targeted has already been moved and for pennies. It shows that we simply aren't looking right now.

Nashville is firmly in the playoffs with this team. If anything, they need a defenseman. I think we see Ellis play 9 games in Nashville, Sulzer is the 7th man right now but I hope the Preds upgrade. If there wasn't a Columbus, Nashville's goals against would be worst in the central.

Think so? I feel very good about our lineup personally. Plus we have a monster in net. Only time will tell.....

I'm talking about goals against last year:

Chicago #6 in the league 203 G
Detroit #7 in the league 207 G
St. Louis #11 in the league 218 G
Nashville #14 in league 221 G
Columbus #24 in league 249 G

For a team that's supposedly defense first that's not that great. Offensively,

Chicago #3 262 G
Detroit #14 223 G
St. Louis #17 218 G
Nashville #18 217 G
Columbus #20 214 G

Chicago lost 55 goals in Buff, Versteeg, Ladd and Sopel so far so the offensive numbers will drop them down in the 220's. Detroit will be better, it has to be because of the injuries, St. Louis so far not much movement except for Halak. Columbus got Moreau.

As for the thread, no on Zajak If a defenseman comes on the market that can help the D, yes.

It'll be a cold day in Hell when the Devils trade Zajac.

They're going to look to move Rolston, and possibly Langenbrunner as well. We might have some interest in Langenbrunner, but I think we would be better focused on trading for Colin White, despite his steep price tag.

Then trade Dumont to a team that can take on his contract, and trade him for a draft pick and/or prospect.

I dont know about that. Arnott sucked in playoffs, but was a major reason we even made it to the playoffs every season. Kostitsyn could go either way, Andersson will put up 25-30 points at most I think, and then Lombardi will help with speed, but is not as offensive as Arnott was. Then you also have to subtract Hamhuis from the picture. I think its a stretch, a very big stretch, to say we are firmly in the playoffs.

Zajac, Gagne, Kariya, whoever, someone would be nice to add to make us "firmly" in the playoffs I feel. Just my two cents... but it makes sense (no pun intended)

I wouldn't say he was a major reason. Hornqvist was a major reason, Suter and Weber were major reasons. Arnott was about as major last season as Dumont. He only had 46 points and it's not like his 2 way play was worth a flip....

I would disagree with that only because I think it would be foolish to think the 4 guys replacing them will only net 15-20 goals. heck, smithson and ward put up that and the guys they have replacing them have better talent than that

I have to disagree with the idea that Arnott was a major reason we made the play offs last season. THE major reason we made the play offs was the fact that when the entire team played the kind of hockey they needed to play that team was among the best in the league. Defensive lapses cost us games (need I remind anyone about the SJ game?). Arnott wasn't a reliable two-way forward, and contributed to his fair share of blunders. Over the years he has been a pretty good offensive forward, but how many of those years do you expect him to have left with his history of concussion problems? If Lombardi's 09-10 season isn't a fluke he can be just as offensive while bringing much better speed, youth, and, as far as I know, a healthy noggin.

We moved Arnott because he knew the team was headed into a different direction, couldn't get an extension, and decided he'd better call his own shots while he still could. It's the nature of the beast, but with our depth up front I'm worried more about our blueline than our forward corps for the first time in three or four years.

On topic: We definitely aren't getting Zajac

262 -55 = 207 and I think the forwards they bring up and increase time will bring this to 220.
