I love how people have love for Harrold and Drewiske. Are these idiots paying attention to what is going on in the rest of the NHL. Teams are loading up on D with 7-8 NHL d-man and then signing cheap goalies.
The Kings barely have 4 NHL D man. Harrold and Drewiske are "tweeners." We need one more top 4 NHL PROVEN D man and one of Hickey, Voinov, Muzzin will prob step in on the bottom pairing with Greene.
Harrold and Drewiske are maybe #7 guys or AHL material.

There are tons of teams with too many defensemen. A deal will happen to alleviate that. Give it time.
UGH, this is going to be a long 2 months until preseason and frozen fury...DL made it sound like we won't be making any deals or signings anytime soon.
I will admit not knowing a ton about the NJ pipeline and I don't think Brodeur is washed up by any means.
Then why in earlier posts were you saying how bad their defense was, how big an idiot Lou was for this contract and how Kovalchuk will never win a cup there?
The 50% Rule says a club can't reduce salary from year to year by more than 50% of the lower of the first two years' salary. In this case that's $3M as Kovalchuk gets $6M in each of his first two years. Had he been paid $11.5M in each of the first two years, the year to year salary reduction could have been as high as $5.75M.
The 50% Rule does not explain the peculiar structure.
Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner/Zubrus
Kovy - Arnott - Elias
Two first line centers right there. Elias can net 25-30 easy now 50+ from both wingers. Zajac will net 20-25 as will lang
The third line center will probably be a stud in the system who looks real good. So we are fine at center.
The blue line could use a few better skaters but Andy Green is pretty damn good at that and Tallinder isn't as bad as people think. They will make due.
I guess when I see the names Zajac and Arnott, I don't think "two first line centers". Nice players to be sure, but lets not get carried away.
Not sure. Looking at the list again I see it as this...
Phaneuf-Nope.
Beauchemin-Maybe.
Finger-Absolutely.
Gunnarsson-Nope.
Kaberle-Yes but at a high price.
Lebda-Nope.
Komisarek-Maybe.
Schenn-Nope.
Phaneuf is their #1, Beauchemin could bring in a solid return, Finger is garbage, Gunnarsson is a solid young d man, Kaberle is out there but the asking price is expensive, Lebda was just signed, Komisarek was supposed to be their #1 guy then they went out and got Phaneuf, Schenn is not available unless it's an overpayment.
*Moller for Beauchemin (add Lewis if necessary)
*Teubert and a 2nd in 2011 for Penner Both players only have 2 years left and a reasonable cap hit. Good fit.

Either one of the "maybe's" would be big upgrades over O'Donnell, so I'm down. Moller and a 2nd sound about right?
It's ironic how when we last had a player of Kovy's caliber (Gretzky) we lacked a solid enough supporting cast, and now we have the supporting cast but no real superstar. Goes to show you though that one player does not a Cup winner make.
Case in point, the Oilers won the cup w/out Gretzky after he was traded.

I'm a huge Leafs fan (I know, I know, we suck.) and also a huge LA fan (liked Doughty since he was playing for the Storm). If Moller is a chippy player, and if he has good potential and is chippy then you could probably get Beauchemin or Komisarek for Moller and a second. Just wondering, I know you guys aren't shopping him, but what would it take to get Simmonds from you guys?

Moller has some edge to his game, but he needs to work on his body to back it up.
Simmonds would cost you Schenn, and you guys don't want that deal.

I think that is incredibly low value but what do I know? I don't really know how either of those guys played last year but weren't they 2 of the top UFA dman from last summer? I can't imagine 2 2nd round picks is all it takes. You seem to think DL will pull of some magic. I hope he does but most of the players that got traded this summer got a good return except Simon Gagne for obvious reasons.
I also don't get the "if the Kings do better than the Devils next year" or "Kovalchuk won't win a Cup with the Devils" BS. Who gives a **** about the Devils? Kovalchuk isn't on the Kings so I really don't give a **** what he or the Devils do. I want the Kings to win the Cup and I don't really care about Kovalchuk or what becomes of his career at this point. Not any more than I care about Scott Gomez, Zdeno Chara, Chris Drury or any of the other players the Kings were after in the past or their respective teams.

Well, if he's not afraid to dig and he works hard then I don't mind that deal (could be better, but could be a lot worse), and yes your right, if Simmonds is going to cost Schenn I'll pass. But I know where your coming from, Simmonds is a fan favourite with lots of upside.

Moller isn't afriad to dig and work hard, and it is no secret that Burke likes him. The fact that he digs too much makes him awfully prone to injury.
Try as he might....one of these days he is going to get obliterated way worse than what Bobby Ryan did. Kid does take a beating though...and always pops right back up. One of these days he isn't getting up.
I'm going to take a few minutes to move the rant posts to the rant thread, and then we're going to get back on topic talking about Plan B. Please stay on topic.
Closed for a few...
EDIT: recent rant posts have been moved. I stopped after 40 or so posts. Looking back further, the rest of the thread is basically unsalvageable. New thread here: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=801166
