Powe will fill the role.

Losing Betts sucks.

Can you imagine that team? Richards, Carter, Belanger, Betts down the middle. Sure, we could go 3 scoring lines and Belanger centering the 4th line for the start, but when the grind of the season kicks in, we could have those 4. Belanger+Betts doesn’t even equal $3 million, plus Belanger would be guaranteed to play with quality linemates since we have a nice mix of forwards.

Too bad it’s a ****ing longshot.

Well if that's the case, at least something good will be coming for this.

Yeah, if this leads to Powe re-signing, it's not all bad.

yes it is as Powe is not needed. Let a young guy fill the role for a month. This way you see what you have in said player or players. Sign Powe then what when Betts returns? Same kind of logic Shooter will follow than figure it out later. So no Betts for a month, not a big deal.

I wonder if Matsumoto could've filled this if he was still in Philly. Maybe Jared Ross would've been nice too.

It's not like Powe is that old himself and he's proven he can be a very good 4th liner for this team. We can start with something like this:

JvR Richards Zherdev
Hartnell Briere Leino
Carcillo Carter Giroux
Shelley Powe Laperriere
Nodl

And when Betts returns, he steps into the 4th line role and Powe or Shelley becomes the 13th forward.

Ross is pretty worthless at the NHL level. He's, what, all of 5'8"? I know he scored against Pitt in the playoffs, but we shouldn't be counting on guys like Jared Ross.

Powe should do just fine.

This does suck though. The team was undeniably better with Betts last year.

Zherdev is better defensively than Matsumoto.

I do wonder what will happen to Thor though. Since he passed waivers he is still our property. I'd be 100% on board with him on the 4th line.

I don't think Thoresen would come back to be a two month replacement.

Powe isn't even good at defense. He just has speed.

It would definitely be a shot to the balls to be called over and then sent packing after 2 months.

I liked Powe initially now I'm just tired of hearing about his "speed." I don't care if he can skate a straight line fast like suicide sprints in practice..I'd like to see more production from the guy and his defense wasn't as good as his initial year. I remember a similar player being "fast"....his name was Brad Jones....he sucked. I still think Powe can be a better player but don't want to overpay the guy which has been Holmgren's MO....

If Powe wanted to get a big raise, he'd have filed for arbitration. Guy still put up 19 points on the 4th line while PK'ing. He's not a bad player, and he is, unfortunately, the kind of guy you need on the team that has been pushed out because of higher salaries and less useful players.

He plays because he wants to. He'll be signed, and Shelley will become the 13th forward. Lavi especially likes Powe (or Powesy, as Richie calls him).

i have a feeling he would prove to be more valuable than shelley if given a month to do so.

If you would say that last year same time you would become public enemy #1, like I was.

but you are right just like I was a year ago. He is hard working reserve player, nothing special.

One of the worst signings in team history. The day the Flyers signed Brad Jones, Russ Farwell was elated but he was also disappointed because the L.A. Kings matched an offer sheet to a player the Flyers wanted. The player admiited he was stunned at how much money he made and only Gretzky, Kurri and Larry Robinson were higher paid Kings. Do you remember that player?
