LOVE it!

Not touching 1m in either year and is still a RFA at the end of his deal.

Team elected arbitration means no matter what he is on the team next year.

So speculation is that it was done to prevent an offer sheet.

great signing and terms. Stil an RFA.

Now we can blow that extra 300K on trading stafford and a pick/prospect and add to the top 6!

That would have been too much given what other pests make.

This is right in line with what he should get. Solid deal, now hopefully Regier will get on with actually bringing in someone to improve this team instead of going with the status quo.

Listening to both Kaleta's and Regier's interviews, it seemed like Regier's emphasis on Kaleta's injury-plagued seasons, combined with Kaleta's ambivalence about the contract negotiation process, led to this very palatable deal.

Nah, they can lose that money if Kennedy gets to arbitration. I'm still blown away that MacArthur won a $2.4 M award...and that Regier got a pair of draft picks for the guy.

And yet they've both been suspended more than Kaleta (I know they've been in the league longer; and Kaleta has a lot more hits that were worse than the one he was suspended for but don't get me started on league discipline....).

Anyway, my point is simply that there are shades of gray. There are plenty of players that are similar to Kaleta that I don't have a problem with. I hate the Kostitsyns too, but for different reasons than why I don't like Ruutu.

And I agree with you about the mainboard. I almost never go over there except for the trade deadline.

thats true. Is a similar deal for Kennedy sound about right?

Wow, I saw Atlanta walked away but I didnt know the arbitration award. Wow, 2.4?!? I'm certain i'd walk away as well...

For all the grief about Regier not moving guys, I still get a chuckle over what he did get for guys like MacArthur, Kotalik, and even Paille to some extent with what happened to them contract/tradewise after they left.

what happened to the other Kaleta thread?

10 goals, in 55 games, while playing mostly 4th line minutes....is impressive.

I think he could get close to 20, when he replaces Mike Grier's role down the road. With that kind of ice time at ES and PK, it's definitely possible.

That's essentially what Kaleta is being molded into... Mike Grier... and i love it.

Anywho.....almost nailed the dollar amount. Good deal.

You are not a Sabres fan. Nice try troll. All Sabres fans know that every move Regier makes is the *WRONG* move.

Great deal. Fair price for the team and Kaleta, and he will still be an RFA at the end of the deal. We couldn't take the risk of making a serious, long-term investment in a reckless player like Kaleta, so this is really the best case for the Sabres.

Great deal both from the money stand point and length. I am glad he's here for at least 2 more years and probably more. I hope he plays his whole career here (even though with his game it'll probably be 5 or 6 years only)

I really don't know how effective he'd be, but I'm just dying to see Kaleta being the guy in front of the net on the power play. I think he could cause all sorts of chaos there.
