Raffi Torres apparently had Montreal on the top of his list when July 1st came, but Habs never showed any interest.

Angelo Esposito hoped that he would be drafted by Montreal.

Alex Tanguay wanted to come back last year.

Petr Sykora came close to sign in Montreal back in 2006 I think before signing with the Oilers.

Marian Hossa was disappointed in 2008 when he learned he wasn't traded in Montreal (wanted to go back to Canada).

Marc Crawford was highly interested in the Habs coaching job last summer.

What was known was that he was very very close to signing here and if I remember correctly he even said he thought he was a Hab or something to that effect until the very last moments before the opening of Free Agency.

I consider him to be part of this group of players.

habs were his team growing up. i do recall him saying he would love to play here one day, however this was before he got booed hard core, which apparently broke his heart or something. From then on he's made it a point to be a habs killer (didnt work so well last playoffs).

Reading the questions this guy asks on these boards, I don't think he was a fan back then...

IIRC, Kostopoulous was disappointed that he didn't get a contract offer last summer

The Hossa thing it's sort of baffling. The Habs wants guys like Briere but are not interested in guys like Hossa, Gagne, Kovalchuk. So strange.

We were highly interested in Hossa. Maybe you don't remember, but we came extremely close to landing him for Higgins+ just before the Pens swept the rug under our feet by offering Armstrong, Christensen and Esposito. It's not like we didn't try.

As for the other two, our cap situation just didn't allow us to be in the running for them. Nothing strange about that.

What I think of kovalev's play aside, he'll be 38 when the contracts with ottawa ends next year. Why would we want him exactly?

i don't think Crosby will ever come here, but i will never forget that draft...when we landed in the top 5. immediately after Syd was drafted RDS asked him about the habs and he mentioned it was close to his dream coming true but of course now he's Mr pittsburgh

I can't believe people want this headcase back, seriously if you want Kovy back, just look at AK46...same problem between the ears only a little less skilled.

Do you want to get entertained or win a cup?

I'd rather be entertained, honestly. Who wants to see a boring cup win?
