LOL! What makes you think he'd even consider sitting on your smelly couch?

Understood nhlers dont care much for the Habs but are willing to follow Scott Gomez around. Imagine if we had signed Gomez prior to the Briere snobbing. 15 millions for 2 big centermen... No way Danny would have gone to Philly with Scott on our team. Guess Simon and Dan Ellis didnt get the memo. Kidding.

If Simon Gagne wants to come, then next year sign with us at a reasonable deal.

Define reasonable for us please. He is at 5 mil now. How about half of Scott Gomez' paychecks? Or in the AK range which takes us at 3.5 mil? 1.5 is Travis Moen, please say the figure should be higher.

Your "lot of" is still way smaller than the total number of players/coaches who are just looking for a job.

Maybe I should change the title to "People who expressed a desire to come to the organization".
You could, but that wouldn't change the argument.

It's like asking for "people who want to date Scarlett Johansson". I'm sure there's some people who wouldn't, but they would be the exception, not the rule. What would be the point of listing everyone who has ever express interest to her? Clearly she has the leverage with regard to her dating. Same thing for the habs management. They have the leverage for hiring their coaches. Who cares if Big Bird express interest to coach here? Of course he does. It doesn't mean management should have hired him, or that he would have done a better job coaching here than the guys we got.

Ryan Smyth was offered the best deal by BG and the Habs the summer he signed in Colorado. Not sure if he didn't want to come here cause of taxes or pressure...but it was a guy the Habs pursued hard enough that a deal was offered.

Someone will have to explain the purpose of this thread to me. I mean, there are only 23 roster spots in a team and I'll guarantee you that there's a heck of a lot more than 23 players interested in playing for the Habs. You can't sign them all and most of them wouldn't make the team better because they either are very ordinary players or they just cost too much.

The ones that come to mind for me are Brendan Shanahan and JP Dumont.
Oh Shanny, we were so close to having him on our team.

He did and waited a while too, before signing. Carolina contacted him on July 1st.

Pittsburgh came in and trumped Montréal's deal. Gagné, it's self-explanatory; there's no cap room for him. Kovalchuk, why give up a ton of assets for a guy you don't have the money to re-sign ?

Are you suggesting Kovalev can't win a cup, or if you have him your destine to fail? I'm pretty sure he already won one. lol

IIRC, Shanahan really wanted to come to Montreal but his wife preferred New York. Obviously we know who will win that battle 10 times out of 10.

Would have been cool to see either him or Hull come. Being able to add two legends like them to the history of the Habs would have been awesome.

Just curious...

Brisebois (contract not offered, retired)
Kovalev (spent too long mulling over contract...contract taken off table)
Koivu (contract not offered, signed with Anaheim)
Gagne (No cap room, traded to Tampa)
Beauchemin (Not sure if the Habs spoke to him)
Frolov (?)
Laperriere (contract not offered)
Yzerman (No call)
Lemaire (Couldn't agree on a deal, Martin was brought in)Robinson (No call)

add on...
Is this fact? I like reading your post most of the time but this is speculating

I remember hearing that Federov was interested in playing here in the later stages of his career, when it looked like his Wings days were coming to a close. Also something to the effect that his father was quoted in a Russian newspaper saying he should be a Hab.

I am sure near on every NHLer would come here, given the right circumstances.

...and I am sure near on every single one would also sign in Nashville under the right set of circumstances.

This is not the good old days. We're one of 30 teams.
