So, GLU, why the vote for Austin? Did you see something in development camp recently that caught your eye, or is this a pre-existing opinion? (Not calling you out obviously, just a thinly veiled bump for more votes)

Austin Smith was hurt at development camp. Didn't skate at all. I don't know if he was doing off-ice stuff, but I would imagine being from here, he may have been rehabbing already.

There are guys with higher upside that are unproven at higher levels that I'm not ready to rank high yet (Klingberg, Guptill). I loved what I saw out of Klingberg, but he's got to put on around 25 pounds before I can really take him seriously.

I have R. Smith very close to A. Smith, I think that until Reilly clearly surpasses where Austin is/was I give the edge to Austin just because he has done it. I view them as comparable players: skilled, fast, high-effort, high-energy, and undersized. Reilly may have the frame to shed the last one, and I realize that he broke in on a stacked team, but not everyone makes that next step. Until he does, I put Austin ahead of him because there too many similarities there.

I want to see consistency out of Korostin this year, or I'm ready to write him off as a Russian V. Polak.

Austin Smith is an interesting case. With him, I think instead of embracing the fact that hes from the area, fans have generally looked at that as a reason to write him off. I think it sort of has him thrown in with the Ludwigs and Michael Neal. Players that people doubt would be in the organization of not for having a previous connection. In their cases it's family, in his case obviously being where he's from. The numbers would actually seem to indicate he's a pretty good player. So basically if its Austin Smith, undersized but skilled RW from Halifax, I suspect people would take him way way more seriously as a prospect.

I had a laugh at this exchange last night.

Any word from Glovesave yet, or can we assume he's earned himself detention and lines?

With so many of these poll threads I sometimes forget to check back...

piqued, it must have been those sweet tarts with the dark spot in the middle my friend gave me from his freezer.

Gotta watch out for those. It's cool. I know some people have their own lists in their minds and are operating off of that, while others play it by ear and listen to alternate opinions and see where the votes are going. Nothing wrong with either one.

Although I think it would be funny to pick one person at random each poll and just berate their voting choice for no particular reason. Everyone could join in, even people who voted for the same option. It could be like an intervention, except with more screaming and insults. I think it would actually encourage participation since more total votes would = less chance of getting singled out.

FTR I do think Klingberg stands a better chance of becoming something significant in the coming years than most of the guys who populate the back half of this list. He's kind of boom or bust. I also tend to like guys who have the skills but need time in the weight room, provided they aren't Chris Conner-hobbit small.

But I'm so desperately afraid of confrontation.
