Was an amazing game and Man U most likely is mad they had to score on our reserves but we had our chances should've won in my opnion.

Bah, the way I see it, Man U scored on our second team. They kept their starting goalie in when we played our 3rd string. Our 2 strikers the 2nd half were 17 yrs old and I think the other was 16/17

They've been beaten up pretty good by Barca multiple times in the last few years.
I was at a sellout game in 06 that they lost 4-1
Drunk off my ass and cheering for Tony Meola the whole time.

What was the foul on the "should have been" goal by McInerney??? It happened directly across from me, and I saw nothing!!!

I am getting in to the whole MLS thing a little bit this summer. It's great to have another sport to watch during the summer other than baseball, especially when the Phillies are near impossible to watch.

Sounds like I'm glad I sold my tickets to the Man U game. A friendly and score 0 goals? What a disgrace.

What's the disgrace? It was a solid game. If anyone should be able to appreciate that there can be beauty in a 1-0 score, it's hockey fans.

Kindly agree to disagree. If I was watching the game on TV, sure I can appreciate a 1-0 game. Paying $50 for a ticket, $15 for parking, and paying $8 for a beer, entitles the ticket holder of scoring ONE goal in a FRIENDLY for the home crowd.

So you would have preferred they lost 5-1?

That is the stupidest thing I have heard. I'd rather them play well and not score than play like crap and catch a break.

To each his own. It's a FRIENDLY the outcome DOES NOT matter. I want excitement, taking chances, goal scoring, giving up goals.

Whatever.

I found the Man U game to be exciting and am proud our boys did such a good job against them.

This is a young side. Friendly or no, playing it as a real game is invaluable experience.

Sources within Union management state that there will be no aquiring of a DP any time soon.

Quote:
According to multiple sources with knowledge of the team's plans, the Philly Union do not intent to bring in any high-priced players via a Designated Player slot this season.

"Why spend $3 million on a player who is going to be around for a year? The team is better of spending that money on academy and training facilities," said a source close to the team.

"It's different if you have a player like David Beckham, who is going to sell a million jerseys, but to give a bunch of money to a player who isn't going to be around long doesn't make sense."

I think it is smart...IF they are actually spending it on development. Let's see how the U-17 team does in the SUM tourney. Starts tomorrow and the Union team is a fairly new development, I think constructed in the last month from various local top youth teams.

http://union.american-soccer-news.com/?p=2183

Quote:
Alex Shinsky – saw 14 games with US U-17 squad in 2009 scoring 2 goals and cementing himself on the youth national team picture, a pacy right winger hailing from York, PA, the 17-year old should act as the leader of the squad having played in last year’s 2009 U-17 World Cup in Nigeria with Union player Jack McInerney. In Nigeria, he scored the gamewinner vs. Malawi in the group stages before falling to the Italians in the Round of 16. He is part of the IMG Academy roster that helped mold USMNT mainstays Josmer Altidore, Landon Donovan and Damarcus Beasley.

Zach Pfeffer – the Dresher, PA native is part of the Spring 2010 Bradenton IMG Residency roster. At 15 years old, he is one of the youngest to be included. Known for vision and his movement on and off the ball, Pfeffer has been a staple in the youth national team ranks. Pfeffer learned his stuff with FC Delco along with fellow Union U-17 teammates Mike Gonzalez and Jimmy McLaughlin.

I'm glad they're not bringing on any DP.

I would like to see a bit more excitement around the team, but if they are committed to youth development and stuff, this team should be fun to watch in 3-5 years.

However, I fear by then Mwanga will be in Europe. The true problem with MLS is that if they did develop a true star, they would leave MLS in a heartbeat given the current salary cap and financial situation of MLS.

Landon Donovan is here, for now, but he is technically a DP.

All these Americans went to Europe from MLS

Tim Howard
DeMarcus Beasley
Clint Dempsey
Carlos Bocanegra
Michael Bradley
Jozy Altidore

What's the problem? Very few leagues in the world keep their stars. It's good that MLS is producing talent.

I don't really see it as a problem. It's kind of like the reverse-NHL. I like to see the players moving forward to greener pastures.

Is there a full roster for that anywhere? I'd like to see if I know some of the names on it.
