Especially since it's good for the national team to have these guys playing in Europe.

If it's the EPL, La Liga, etc., then yes, I agree.

However, I do think that the level of play in the MLS over the past 3-4 years has come up to the point where it's almost on par with the SPL and leagues of that ilk. That makes me at least start to question the value of having guys like Clarence Goodson, for example, playing in Norway.

SPL is pretty bad outside of the two big clubs. However, by playing in Europe the guys get to participate in Champion's League, and Europa even if their domestic league isn't that great (assuming their teams qualify).

Biggest problem with MLS is that the skill level just isn't very high... until they get high skill developing guys into the league and then going to Europe, it's going to remain a problem.

Honestly most European leagues are vastly better than the MLS, even if only for the timing of their season. Also, for the time being, I do not want US guys on top teams, riding the bench doesn't help, they need playing time in good leagues.

hmm... the ManU match was pretty good. I've had more entertaining moments watching a handful of Philly matches this season than most of the World Cup (but the WC isn't so enjoyable to me except for the atmosphere and collection of players).

I am excited for the future of the Union and MLS. MLS teams lack ability in and around the box but it seems that possession, build-up, and first touch have improved since I began watching in 2007 --in some games I've seen this season.

The way the football improves in the U.S. is by having European standard football fields on which youth can play from the earliest possible age, better quality trainers/coaching ASAP, and reducing the cost to play in a good quality league.

Philadelphia is a perfect city where some investors should consider building a city youth league with a number of high-quality pitches, good coaching (Latin, European), BUT the problem is there is no legal basis for an investor to create a league and youth development academy when the university system and MLS draft system will prohibit any investors from making money off any such youth league and youth development academy.

better off sending your best young talent to Europe while in middle school apparently.

Well just like kids who go away to college, Europe will always attract American players no matter how good MLS gets. But I do think the profile of the league is rising and eventually the money will be there to keep more Americans and interest mid-level overseas talent.

Mwanga chose MLS over France.

MLS can develop into a solid, if not "great" league. However, if they don't let Donovan go over to the EPL they're going to F themselves, because every US player with serious aspirations isn't going to sign on with them for any extended period of time because the league is establishing that they will block you from progressing if they feel you're good/valuable enough.

Agreed. While I understand what the MLS is doing with its system of operating as a single entity - certainly, teams like Kansas City would die right now without this system - at some point, the league will need to sever the umbilical and let the individual teams sink or swim on their own. As it stands, the MLS execs look at it as though Donovan carries the whole league on his shoulders, not just the Galaxy.

Union goaltender Brian Perk was waived (they have waivers?). They signed Temple Product J.T. Noone who played for the Harrisburg City Islanders, and also for the Union in a friendly vs. Celtic.

ANOTHER Midfielder?

They need a quality defender pretty bad. Perk was awful in the Man U game, but I feel bad for the guy. He is only 21.

that Le Toux shot was just awesome. I must say, having the stadium in Chester is a real burden to me and all my friends. We used to goto every game but now no one wants to drive to ****ing Chester ****hole to watch a game. Before you could jump on the subway if you lived in the city, or jumped on the regional rail to subway to get right to the stadium. The tailgating at PPL is horrible, the town is a piece of ****, very unfortunate.

They're playing well, bit of a weak call on the penalty but I'll take it.
