Brock Trotter to the KHL

The one-year deal with Dinamo Riga (Latvia) could be worth up to $250,000 US

Too bad. I saw him cracking the line up this year if only as an injury reserve. Mistake on his part IMO.

If I was going to go into the porn industry, 'Brock Trotter' would be my new name.

Unfortunate for the Bulldogs if correct. Still, whenever I hear "Sun sources" I take these reports with a grain of salt.

Wow.....didn't expect this to say the least.

You'd hope that the Habs who loves the US would be all over the great US UFA's available. We got Trotter. Leafs got Bozak. It shouldn't happen. We will see what will happen with our other UFA's.

Big loss for the Dogs that's for sure. Whoever is in charge over there, if any, better do something to upgrade that team 'cause that will leave a mark.

This really surprising considering the numbers involved.

I have no issue with this. He would have to go through waivers so we might lose him. At least this way he can develop 1 year more and return and crack the line-up.

Still way below the NHL minimum salary. I doubt this story has legs. The Habs can give him a one way contract for league minimum easily. He would need to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL, so even if he gets claimed, he still has a salary double what he could earn in Latvia. This is probably just his agent trying to get a one way deal for his client, I doubt he really wants to play there.

I was under the impression that you had to be a Russian citizen to benefit from the whole tax-free thing.

Edit: Plus, this one is in Latvia... Either way, it really is a strange move. I thought he'd at least wait until aften camp to make a move like! He's not even going to try his chance to make the Habs? Wow them at training camp?

I think it could be viewed as good news. Trotter would have to clear wavers to be sent down and, who knows, some team could take a chance on him - it is a very low risk move for such a team. We clearly needed him to spent another year in hamilton to improve his skating and strength before considering him for a spot. So he can spend this season in the KHL where big ice should benefit his skating and come back next year. Worst case scenario he stays there for good but hi - he was a college FA.

agreed, I didn't have him on Hamilton's roster as I figured he would make the Habs as a spare or get moved as a throw in to a deal perhaps. With him in Russia we still retain his rights, and don't have to worry about him clearing waivers. Good point on his skating and strength cause if he can improve there that's going to be key for him as he has the puck skills to be an NHLer but lacks all the physical intangabiles.

Can't say I was a big fan of him for the Habs outside of a depth fill in for a game or two here and there, but I would rather keep his rights since he's still young at almost 23 years old then lose them for nothing or next to nothing as I would assume he won't have much value in a trade but he has excelled at every level so far. He was a standout at Denver, was the best player on his team in his sophmore year (Bozak was a freshman) and this past season he had a great year playing mostly with Desharnais (Desharnais seems to help everyone's point totals increase) so there's still some hope he can improve upon the physical aspects cause if he can get a little quicker and stronger it will bode well for him at whatever league he's at.

That's my view on the subject as well.

I have a feeling he does very well in the KHL.

Funny because it sounds like "Brock Landers", which is the name of a fake porn movie hero played by the porn star Dirk Diggler, played by Mark Wahlberg in Boogie Nights!

It also sounds like Brock Lesnar.... oh well...

I think "Brock" as a first name would work with any last name for a porn star... Let's try it : Brock Gorges? Brock Martin? Brock Boyd? Brock Eller? Brock O'Byrne? Brock Subban? Confirmed!
