I guess I'll put this as a rumour until it's confirmed. Although, I don't see why anyone would make this up. I actually don't mind this that much. Since he's North American, I have confidence he'll return. The KHL is a higher level that the AHL which can help with the evolution of his game. Something tells me if this is true, it may be a mutual agreement between the Habs management and Trotter. This way Trotter, who's unlikely to make the Habs as a regular and needs to clear waivers to return to the AHL, can remain in the organization and progress.
Funny because it sounds like "Brock Landers", which is the name of a fake porn movie hero played by the porn star Dirk Diggler, played by Mark Wahlberg in Boogie Nights!
It also sounds like Brock Lesnar.... oh well...
I think "Brock" as a first name would work with any last name for a porn star... Let's try it : Brock Gorges? Brock Martin? Brock Boyd? Brock Eller? Brock O'Byrne? Brock Subban? Confirmed!
Good for him. I can't imagine Trotter cracking the lineup this year and not even next year. Maybe if we had a few more physical players on the top 6, but even then. I'd rather keep Mr. inconsistent Kostitsyn up there and Mr. enigma Pouliot or go after a UFA.
Good luck Mr. Trotter. The Swiss league might be a better option fyi.

We gonna see a lot of good young AHL players living for European Leagues.
The Habs, unfortunately, are filled with smaller players on their top two lines, signed on long contracts. We don't need more.
This really surprising considering the numbers involved.
So............where's the surprise?
As I understand it, Trotter left the University of Denver during (approximately) the middle of a season to sign with the Habs - now he's bolting to the KHL for more money....so, should we be surprised?
Did you notice any sense of loyalty from Trotter anywhere along the line? At least he didn't leave the Habs organization during the season like our friend Valentenko.
Latvia is 26% flat tax on income, pretty nice deal.
He'll be making way more than in AHL, get a chance to travel Europe. Good deal for him since his chances of making the NHL are iffy, this is a chance for him to make some very nice money, yes he could make more in NHL, but who knows if he'll ever stick there? He doesn't, this is a chance to bank six figures.
I think Avtsin can fill his shoes and take on his role. I really think Avtsin will do well this year, and remind us of why we were so hyped about this kid.
His AHL salary is 65K... His NHL salary is $687,500. If he only plays in the AHL, he'll only get the 65K. In the KHL he's guaranteed $250,000, which is obviously a huge raise from what he'd make in the AHL.

It's also a better league than the AHL, so if he does well in the K, he could be rewarded with a nice contract there, or an NHL one.

I'm not so sure, trotter's problem is that he plays soft. Not to say that the KHL is a completely soft league, but I just don't see how he can improve that aspect of his game there. I doubt we see him with the habs.
This is bizarre to me. Trotter's one of the few Habs prospects with top 6 potential, albeit as a longshot. Still, if injuries hit he was well placed to step in. The story linked by Habs I/O says he could make "up to" 250,000. So his top flight experience in the KHL isn't worth what he'd make money or experience wise if he could manage to spend 1/3-1/2 the season in the NHL, which was not an unrealistic hope for him. Not to mention the difference in standard of living, transportation, training facilities etc. I'm sure it's a step up from the AHL, but frankly it's not even a chance to pad his numbers, given the averages in the KHL.
Maybe PG told him he had no future withe the club and/or his agent said he wasn't NHL bound. Otherwise this just seems a strange choice for him. It's not like he's Russian. The whole season will spent in an alien, isolating environment. After all, how many NA guys go the KHL and later say "that was great! I'm so glad I did that."?
