New AGM of Calgary/Former Tampa GM Comments on Yzerman so far

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=328014

Was doing some of my daily reading and saw this and thought some of my fellow Tampa fans wouldn't mind seeing it too. Pretty happy with Stevie Y thus far, let's hope his streak continues. Just made my account here so I'll try to be active on the boards. I'll be splitting my time here and on the Canucks board.

After 10 years in the Lightning's organization, Feaster is equipped to judge the performance of rookie GM Steve Yzerman there.

"In my mind, he's a strong candidate of executive of the year right now," Feaster said. "He's coming up aces."

New owner Jeff Vinik fired GM Brian Lawton and head coach Rick Tocchet in April when the team missed the playoffs for the third straight year. Vinik then hired Yzerman, a Hockey Hall of Fame player.

Feaster approved Yzerman's trade of defenceman Andrej Meszaros to Philadelphia, the free-agent signing of Simon Gagne, the contract extension for Marty St. Louis and the hiring of Guy Boucher and Julien Brisebois as coach and assistant general manager respectively.

"He's made the team better right now, but just as importantly, he's freed up some bad contracts that he'd rather not be hamstrung by over the next two or three years," Feaster said.

"You look at the way Gagne played in the post-season, he certainly seemed to be rejuvenated and healthy. If he is, that's a home run. You pair him with Vinny Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis, I think it's a great deal.

"He did the right thing in my mind by extending Marty St. Louis (who is) still the heart and soul of that hockey team. No matter how talented Lecavalier is and Steven Stamkos, Marty is still the heart and soul."

Simon Gagne wasn't a free agent signing?

If we signed him as a free agent we would have gotten a worse deal!

Getting rid of Walker too! 3 days on and I'm still smiling!

$11.88 million is the individual limit for a player this year.

and I literally just edited the wiki page on NHL Cap to reflect current year's number.

How do you mean 'like' statistics? I mean, I like them, but don't 'like', like them.

He doesn't like them the way he likes Jim Paek.

Most general managers look awesome when dealing with Paul Holmgren. Except for Don Waddell, but I don't really think I have to explain why on that one.

Enjoy Gagne, guys. I hope he has a stellar season and helps the Lightning make the playoffs. He's truly a class act and deserves nothing but the best (unfortunately, the way the Flyers treated him this summer was totally despicable, especially for a player of his tenure and stature).

I have no real hatred for Jay. Thought he made boneheaded moves from time to time but all in all was a good guy and would actually talk to you about them, according to one poster.

Eh, it felt so right. So natural. Too nice a guy and it showed in some bad ways.
