Getting two 3rd's and a 4th for Paille and MacArthur were great moves. Essentially, these were the trades:

Clarke MacArthur

for

Jerome Gauthier-Leduc
Steven Shipley
_________

Daniel Paille

for

Kevin Sundher

I think we'll ultimately look back on these deals and judge them kindly.

It's too bad Paille couldn't have hit his other escallation point and gotten them another 4th rounder. They got something for guys they may not have wanted to pay or could have paid.

Now hopefully he can get more out of Stafford, either on the ice or in a deal....

Eh. That just gives guys a free shot at crosschecking the hell out of him. Save his neck and back for hitting -- put him on the PK and let him smoke a guy in those situations. Besides, most teams don't have a guy who's going to hammer on him if he hits someone cleanly on the PK... although if they play the Bruins, it would be in their best interest to send him out when Horton is out on the PP. Instant kill there.

Yea...Kaleta in front on the PP would be bad news. He's tiny and would get beat up, not to mention the chances of him taking a bad penalty.

I think "tiny" is overstating it, and I think he has the potential to continue developing as a more complete hockey player, rather than just being a punching bag. I guess I'd rather have him take a beating while helping the power play be less pathetic....

there's no real reason to believe he'd "help the PP be less pathetic"...

like Chain said... there is no reason to expose Kaleta to allow opponents to take liberties with him. He already has neck problems.

i cant think of a worse position to put a player like Kaleta in.

give him increased minutes, even PK time... but dont put him out on an island to take cross checks, slashes, and blow to the head...

In the world of regular hockey, no, he's not tiny. In the world of the PP man in front of the net, he's absolutely miniscule.

There would be dozens of defensemen in the Eastern Conference absolutely salivating over the idea of Kaleta being the guy to try to set screens on the PP.

I wouldn't put Kaleta anywhere near the front of the net on the PP. If Vanek weren't so good there I wouldn't want him there either because of the chances of getting hurt. Those guys take a beating and putting a guy like Kaleta there would only make matters worse.

If you're really gifted (Vanek) or really huge, you can offer a production benefit. Otherwise, you're just picking between guys who will take a beating, and Kaleta takes enough of one imo. That isn't to say he can't feasibly hack it on the PP if he continues to improve as a player, but it's not optimal usage at this point and likely never will be.

I should have just said 'ditto' to this.

I'd rather see Gaustad, Hecht, Niedermayer or Grier get time there over Kaleta. I agree that he can grow into a complete player and would love to put him on a scoring line one day (his speed and ability to open up ice for other guys would be excellent), but his style of play requires linemates who are willing to throw down after Kaleta inevitably gets the other team riled up.

This is the best news I have heard all summer!!!
