Its true that getting the top dog (HB and others) to join will be harder but if the unknown blogger come and join and they become successful I think it will attract others to join.

I want to make it a community of rumors. It will be for the fun of it and keep in mind everyone can use it you don't have to have a "insider source" you could have heard it on the radio or any other type of media and decided hummm...yah that could make sense that rumor I will "gamble" on it and create it on the site...you see where I going with that. I've read so many of your post and you have really good knowledge of the game so when Ek tells you that X player will be trade for Y guys you know if this could have the potential to happen and if you think so then go ahead and create a rumors and like Ek you don't have to tell your source if you don't want too.
So you wanna make a 2nd Eklund site?

Not gonna work...

Just ignore all the negative Nancy's of the world and go with the people who show you support. No point wasting your time with remarks like that as if anyone read your post they would realize it's a site to credit or possibly even discredit people and sites like Eklund and his.

Can't cut up the site before it even exists. Sounds like an interesting idea. Go for it.

You might have a hard time getting the connected people, at first . So I suggest that since they won't be on your site at first and also to get thing started, there should be a profil type, controled by admins, which would be "trackers". These trackers would track the name of their profil. Ex: Ek. Could be tracked even if he doesn't post on your website. Once this hasbeen done for a while, you can approche Ek and say:
" Dude, you should start a profil and start filtering your rhumers by posting the most reliable ones, so that the people can see you are better then what we have tracked so far. You are better then 0,5%, right???"

Or something that won't piss him off and make himwant to post, tobeat his own tracker.

That's a good idea and also I believe that when for ex Ek sees that other unknown blogger are getting popular because of their score he may see the value of the site for his reputation.

Why don't you just import all the rss feeds from the 1000 other hockey rumor sites, and comment on them?

Because one of the goal of the site is to provide rumors blogger a way to gain respect and visibility using the point system and use it to promote their own site or name.

You won't be able to attract the true insiders who are working for major media outlets while people like EK already have their own site/blog/twitter. Your market should be the average internet user who would make up a trade or reproduce what he/she has read or heard somewhere else.

You could create a game with your points system or a tournament and offer prizes to winners in order to attract more visitors/posters (for instance, a tournament for UFA signings, who will sign where). You could find different sports memorabilia as prizes for free in exchange for publicity but you'd have to show good site ratings.

Good luck!

I'm not really sure where this discussion best belongs, but it's not the Montreal Canadiens sub-forum. Best of luck to you with your endeavour, but there are more general forums that might be better suited for the brainstorming session.
