As for the lines, obviously the intention wasn't to make an actual line-up. There are 21 forwards in there: how can you make a line-up. That being said, I'd argue that Gomez is our #1 center, not Plekanec. And Eller becoming a better playmaker/producer than Plek in 2-3 years remains a possibility.

My point is that a player needs to be the best for the role he intends to take on a roster. So a guy like Avstin will need to be very talented, or he won't be playing. One example is Maxwell. The guy won't turn out as a fourth line centerman: if he can't be an offensive power, he won't play in the NHL.
That said, I wonder if we would be placing Pavel Datsyuk on a third line.
