I never heard much about him from Rochester. I don't think that losing him would hurt much though since we have several better prospects on defense.

It would be a big blow to Rochester, as he really played well last season.

There's plenty of defensemen out there. Problem is, Rochester is all but out of veteran spots. The Amerks still need another free agent forward and defenseman, but have already used up all 5 veteran spots. There's the exempt veteran spot, which could still be filled. That's someone with between 260-320 pro games (AHL or higher). I mean the Amerks defense looks brutal right now, especially if Henry goes to Russia.

So who are some younger guys out there who have played under 260 pro games or between 260-320? Anyone good?

Not many, but the Amerks need a veteran presence on defense, not another kid.

But how would they get one? The Grant signing kind of screwed things up with the vets.

Yeah that's why no one liked that signing. They could sign a defenseman who's an exempt vet, or just sign extra veterans and rotate players in and out. With injuries and call ups, it usually figures itself out.

Guess this isn't a rumor anymore. Change the title.

Well he needs to be replaced, for the Amerks. This is where quality parent clubs get separated from the poor ones.

Phil Oreskovic is exactly what the Amerks need. A big, physical, non-veteran defenseman.

Does that philosophy include not replacing a key player? Because if that's the philosophy, the Amerks can't leave soon enough.

From a pure Amerk fan, i completely understand your point.

But there are a number of teams who employ the philosophy of development of their own players over winning. Naturally one could say winning is a major part of development, but they still remain to me two different things.

Well then if that's the position Florida wants to take, they will never have a consistent farm club, unless they own and operate it. You look around and see teams like the Rangers, Red Wings, Capitals, Canucks, Penguins, Predators, Bruins etc. These teams have had consistent farm clubs, and good working relationships. Why? Because they put a premium on winning and developing. Their AHL teams don't need to look elsewhere because they are taken care of.

Can't blame Henry for leaving, he did everything he was asked of but got no recognition from the Panthers. He deserved to be called up before Ellerby. The defense on the farm is weak right now.

Guess I'm one of the few not really worried about this at all. Henry probably wasnt going to ever make it to the NHL anyway. And this guarantees that Comrie will get at least decent ice time in Rochester this season so it'll be a better gauge on whether he's got NHL potential or not. I could see the need to add another d-man but there's already Wilson, Caruso, Comrie, Robak and Hudson along with the probability that Ellerby starts the season in the AHL. One to two more may be all thats needed to just fill out that roster in case of injuries and such but there's always the possibility of a loaner like De Gray was last yr.

that doesnt sound very weak to me. ofc they need to add someone who can step in if ppl get injured, but they way their D looks right now I'd be happy if I was a fan

i would've liked to see him get a at least a little taste of the nhl with the panthers. i noted that he really stood out when i saw the amerks in providence two seasons ago.

Now another site is reporting it's Jordan Hendry of the Blackhawks. Who knows who it really is.

There are certainly a couple of reputable sites reporting it is HenDry from Chicago.

However, we've heard that he was very close to signing again with the Hawks, so we're definitely hoping that it is Henry (Fla) that is headed.

Can anyone confirm one way or the other?
