The place isn't a dump. Compare some of the pictures of Riga (http://www.rigaphotos.com/) to what you might find in Detroit or even Hamilton. You can laugh about his Lada and his 200 square foot apartment, but he will probably have a nicer car and nicer apartment than many of the posters who are trying to minimize his decision.

In the meantime, he may continue to develop and eventually find his place in the NHL. While he is doing that, he earns 4x as much as he would in Hamilton. It will probably be a good move for him.
Wow Latvian food definitely looks like something I want to try. Too bad there's no such restaurant in MTL. Maybe that was the deal breaker for Mr. Trotter

Are you saying that Trotter is less in need of "seasoning"
before contributing in the NHL,than Pacioretty? And this is
painfully obvious? Maybe you omitted the

He didn't omit anything, when Cam A Larry hates a player, not only will he never ever change his mind, but it makes him think irrationally as well.

On the KHL board they say it's 2 years. But we keep his rights for a few years so it doesn't matter.

Ha. I'm sure that stuff isn't hard to get in Riga either. In any case, my point was that Riga is a modern city with all the amenities anyone might expect so Trotter is not exactly going to live in a frozen gulag.

I strongly doubt it. Dinamo Riga players get the best, not to mention that it would take some effort to find a used Lada in Riga. Even most Latvians don't drive those anymore. A nice apartment in the best part of town & a shiny beemer or a Merc is more like it. Probably some nice, tall blondes too, but that part is unofficial. I wouldn't feel too bad for Brock. Chances are he will have a lot more fun in Riga than in Hamilton. Now let's see what he can do on the ice wearing maroon. I expect him to be our top scorer this season. He was brought in as a replacement for Marcel Hossa who, I believe, led the KHL in goals last year.

Speaking of maroon, Dinamo Riga is one of the 2 KHL teams that will play an NHL team (Phoenix) during pre-season. This is the first time in decades that NHL teams will play teams from the former USSR & first games ever between the new KHL & the NHL.

Ah I remember having an arguement with a poster who thought Trotter would outpoint Plekanec in 10-11. Good times.

Don't worry he was kidding. Lots of people visit Riga, it a very popular tourist spot because of how nice it is.

Don't get me wrong , 60k a year is nothing to complain about , but suppose he destroy his knees and can't play hockey anymore he wouldn't have made enough to buy a house or to necessarily put his life on a good base. With 250k + car + app if he's not an idiot he can come back here and buy a house right away and after that even if he destroy his chance to play pro hockey he would still have something to show for his past. They don't all have the Harvard backup plan LMAO.
