NFL. Grew up watching the Buffalo Bills in their almost dynasty.
I like basketball but it's really hard to be a fan of an NBA franchise because of things like the LeBacle and the Vince Carter experience in Toronto. One superstar leaving a team can really ruin that franchise.
This kinda makes me wonder how super duper poorly a 2nd NHL team would do in Montreal. Everyone knows that a 2nd team in toronto would sell out every night. I'm kinda curious how empty a 2nd team in Montreal would be. Would it be worst than the Panthers, Nashville?
I honestly can't see anybody in Montreal supporting a 2nd team.
I would **** my pants if an NFL franchise came to Montreal. Unfortunately I can't see it happen in at least the foreseeable future (20 years). Not that I don't see the support, I just don't see the dollars. Who would build a $500 million stadium and all the start up fees involved? It took long enough to get an MLS franchise which is like a joke compared to the NFL. Montreal just isn't a major league city. Too much damage done in the late 70s/80s with the politics and we're still trying to recover.
Football isn't big enough YET in Quebec to support the NFL anyways. It wasn't in Ontario either, at the end they were giving away seats for those Bills games to fill the skydome.
As popular as football has been growing in Quebec in the last decade it's still nothing compared to the way it is in many areas of the USA, it's complete saturation there. You can begin to talk NFL when the ALs and this upcoming QC expansion team are drawing ratings similar to the Habs and demand for tickets is so high that mediocre tickets cost $100-200 (right now for the Als the face value on platinum tickets is a little less than $100).
I really don't give a crap about any of them. MLB I tried, and successfully got into it for about 3 weeks. That was that. NBA, I tried, and could barely get through a game. NFL, I respect, but just isn't for me. None of them peak any interest in myself, at all
