I am a big follower of uniform numbers. Considering that this thread is about Callahan, Frolov, (and don't forget Boogard) uniform numbers, maybe someone can answer. Between Phil Esposito's 77 and Wayne Gretzky's 99, I don't recall many (if any) Rangers wearing a uniform number that was a high number. McSorely's 55 comes to mind but besides exhibition games, they never distributed high numbers. When Nedved was acquired the first time around, he was issued #10. Was there a policy or team decision restricting such numbers? I guess when Nedved returned to the Rangers, it was difficult not to give him 93 since Gretzky had 99....although the latter was much more deserving. Since Gretzky, the upper numbers seemed to be distributed more frequently. I wonder if the Rangers would have assigned Eric Lindros 88 had he been acquired in 92.
Sticking to the subject, I don't see Callahan giving his number up. I can see 14 for either Frolov or Boogard.
