Interesting. I was actually wondering a few days ago whether Callahan was one of the comparables used in the McArthur arbitration as Callahan's $2.4m salary for 10-11 was in the wheelhouse for McArthur's arbitration award.

Indeed, seems like it must have been the case. I'm still trying to find other comparables for MacArthur that would have justified a $2.4m award (with or without a counter by Dudley). Olesz is probably used all the time even though he's younger. Not sure who else.

posted in the minor signings thread as well, but the Devils have re-signed defenseman Mark Fraser, avoiding arbitration

seems like Wheeler won't be back in Boston unless Chia can get some team to take Savard's contract off his hands in a soft trade.
Bruins have really painted themselves into a corner with questionable contracts to Savard, Lucic, Ference, Seidenberg, Thomas and Ryder.
It should be interesting to see how this works out.

from some Twitter (ViperVision)... Blake Wheeler's arbitration award: 1 year, $2.45 million. Bruins have 7 days to accept, will be over the cap if they do.

not sure if real, but, fair amount

i think he saw Murph's tweet when he said we will find out in 2.45 hrs and thought that was the award. looks like he might be copying that but maybe not.

if that's what it is though i would be happy with it.

2.45 is fair. He's a 20 goal scorer.

This. And the comps would put Wheeler's value somewhere between $2.25 and $2.5 million, but NHL arbitrators work in mysterious ways, so who knows. But Perron, Fleischman, and Raymond's contracts should set the absolute ceiling since all three guys have better resumes.

With the 10% offseason cushion, they can afford the award at the moment.

Silly logic!

Would the Bruins accept it if it is $2.45 million for a year? Would they want to move him at that dollar amount if there are no takers for Savard?

Also, does he prefer playing LW or RW?

So a twitter account with one post is reporting this? Must be true.

That's why the Savard rumors were bouncing about. He supposedly was supposed to be traded by now to have space to fill up the roster.

Mirtle says Kennedy was awarded $1m.

I'm told Sabres forward Tim Kennedy was awarded $1-million in arbitration, a raise from the $635,000 he made last season.

The lack of understanding of the Bruins' cap situation is hilarious. Sturm goes on LTIR on the first day of the season, and one of Ryder/Sturm is dumped/waived/traded by the time Sturm's ready to return. As long as Wheeler + Seguin's base doesn't exceed $3.5m (probably won't), they'll be fine.

this is the interesting part ...because once the hearing is over, Boston cannot trade Wheeler. it's take the contract, or he's a UFA.

Has any player been dealt during the arbitration process i.e. after the hearing, and before the result? ...is that even possible?

incorrect. there is no rule about trading a player after signing his arbitration award.

your thinking of a rfa getting an offersheet. if the current team matches the offersheet they cant trade him. no such restriction on arbitration. boston could sign him and trade him at any point

do people actually look into what they are talking about before spewing ******** out of their mouths?

and for the record i love all the people who still say the only way we can get cap space is if we move savard in a soft deal. theres other ways, believe me.
