Georges Laraque with the Green Party as the vice-leader.

According to Le Devoir, Georges Laraque will be named "vice-leader" of the Green Party today in Vancouver. He'll be number 2, just behind leader Elizabeth May.

P.S. Mods, I'm not sure how to translate "chef-adjoint", so feel free to change the title.

P.S.2 : I'm really happy to link an article from Le Devoir, the best French speaking newspaper in Canada (IMO)

Also it seems like he's done with hockey. Last season, he was pretty confident to sign a new NHL contract, so I guess he was wrong...

Pretty confident he'd be able to get a contract somewhere for a good amount of money.

However if his interests have shifted, it is good for him to pursue them, he is a millionaire.

So theoretically if the Green Party were to win, would that make BGL Vice-PM of Canada?

There is no such thing as vice-PM. Canada sometimes has a deputy prime minister but does not currently have one. Usually, when the PM is unable to continue as PM, the Governor General consults with the governing party. The party chooses a new leader and the governor general has to approve this decision. I don't remember the exact details but, from what I learned, this is actually one of the areas where the governor general's position is not entirely ceremonial (although often it is).

I think we get it, nobody likes Laraque... Can we give it a rest now?

It's not like he killed your dog. He has opinions and would like to share them with people in the hope of making their lives better. But I guess you can be an butt hole for that too.

Good for him and good for the party.

Yeah, he may end up being a weak politician, but the Green Party needs exposure now and this is a great way to do it: giving a role to a very popular person (who has beliefs related to the party) who's coming to a crossroads in his career.

To all of you who say: oh the Green Party sucks, imagine Laraque in Ottawa, blablabla. The reason why most people vote Green is not because we want the Green party to be in charge of the country, but for that party to have a seat or two. They act as the conscience of the Liberals and Conservatives in terms of environmental issues.

Yeah I meant Deputy or whatever. I didn't know that they didn't have one all the time though.

I was on the subway in Toronto a couple of days ago, and there was an ad with Laraque's picture on it and the ad was for a $15/month service for Teksavvy I think. It had Laraque's picture on it and in massive letters: "NO CONTRACT". I was like "damn right"

++

I think that BGL is cool ! i like his advertisement with the girls ... ! When fighting, he (at least in the last years) didn't seem to be nasty ... just punching for the sake of the job ... ! which points for a socially responsible attitude.

Now the green party ! why not ?

Don't forget that George Parros (ANA's goone) is doctor in Psychology or smthng like that.
goone isn't equal to stupid !! a goone is a strong hockey player using his resources at best to get the best money !! do you earn 1mio a year ?? most can't answer positively !

Go BGL Go
The world needs people on the green side before it be too late !!

I don't know for others, but the thing that annoys me about this guy is that it seems like he'll do ANYTHING for attention. He's basically an attention *****.

Pretty much my thoughts. I understand him joining the green party, no problem. I just find it annoying he does one stupid commercial after another, gets in the media for no reason, then this. If it were this alone, then no problem, just now its compounded, it's getting ridiculous.

Georges Laraque is an attention *****. I think this will negatively affect the Green Party's image. They should be trying to look more legitimate, not look like some vanity party.
