I totally agree with you. But is Marty really a upgrade at this point of his career?

In knowledge of the return we actually got for Gagne, I would've taken Schneider for Gagne any day of the week.

Same could be said about Harding.
and to be even more jaded Schneider is making only $900 000

Niemi was lights out in the WCF's and stole game 2 of the SCF's.

Leighton and Boucher looked "leight's out" at times.

It was an optical illusion. Giroux did it.

No, his value compared to ML is marginal.

Gagne wasn't waiving his NTC to go to VAN. It was the east or shove it.

Well, I was focusing more on Backlund/Bobro at the NHL level and Eriksson at the AHL level. I wouldn't want to see Homer lock up Turco for more than 2 years, anything longer than that and we're wayyyyyy too invested in a goalie passing his prime. 2 years is enough time to hold down the fort so-to-speak. Not to mention the way the goalie market is at the moment, there isn't a goalie that was/still is out on the market that was/is worth more than a 3 year contract IMO.

Hawks will apparently re-sign him if he's under $3.00m.

So that leaves Turco up for grabs again.

the only way I see him in O&B is at this yrs deadline for a gross over payment... like carle, picks and Boosh. Which would be a lot for a rental goalie w/ very little p/o games under his belt.

The nice part about Vokoun is his under 35 contract, but depending on how Bobrovsky does, we may not even want to tie him up long term.

I think if Meszaros has a really good year, he could be the center piece of a deal for Vokoun.

So if Chicago accepts Niemi at $2.75 mil, and I'd be surprised if they didn't, then Turco is back to either the Flyers or the Walla Walla Mighty Mites. $2 mil per for 2 years sounds about right, Boucher to somewhere else, and Walker waived (I know what Holmgren said about him!) and this team is ready for the season to start.

Carcillo - Richards - Zherdev
Hartnell - Carter - Briere
vanRiemsdyk - Giroux - Leino
Powe - Betts - Laperriere
Shelley

Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Meszaros - O'Donnell
Bartulis

Turco
Leighton

Not bad, but if I was making this team, I'd waive Shelley, make Carcillo the 13th, and hunt the bargain bin for a top 9 winger.

I can't disagree, Chris, and would love for Holmgren to come to his senses. Unfortunately, I don't see Shelley being shown the door as realistic. Even the Walker dismissal is questionable, even though the situation practically screams for it to be done. Unfortunately, I can see Bartulis being the odd man out, and being picked up by another team. Then we can get the patented Holmgren shoulder-shrug at another wasted asset.

That being said, if you don't already have one of those type of goalies your only course of action is to beef up the D.

Niemi, Turco, ML are not 'stand on your head' goalies.
We don't need a "stand on your head" goalie. We have a stupidly stacked defense.

We need a goalie that won't allow goals like Mike Leighton allows...for example shots a three year old could stop.
