How do you figure doing that trade with Price and Niemi included without sending someone else, and the only one that fits for both team's cap is AK.

Niemi would almost be a throw-in signed for just a single season.

We'd also be helping Chicago with the cap in such a trade.

I'd keep Price instead.

I don't really put much stock into this trade, I don't see it worthwhile for the Habs at all. I was more just stating that if a trade were to made with Chicago, Sharp would be a player I would be targeting considering the obvious stars on Chicago aren't really going to get moved.

I think maybe last years final, and probably some of the Detroit teams would fit this. Detroit was a team that all they had to do was get enough goals to win, it didn't matter if it was Osgood, Hasek or Vernon in net.

The year previous the Pens won not only because of Crosby and Malkin, but because of Fleury. Years previous in Broduer, Ward, Giggy, Bulin and Roy are obvious reason on why you need goaltending to win.

People seem to forget that those three goalies are ****ing excellent though.

Chicago's gotten rid of half their team and now will probably lose their goalie too. Does anyone else think that they may have been better off losing one of their better players on a high salary? At least their depth and chemistry wouldn't be affected. Beyond Toews, Keith, Kane, Campbell (large contract) and Hossa (because of his contract), I'd have moved my next biggest contracts, Sharp, Versteeg (which they did) and I wouldn't have matched Hjalmarsson. Given what they've done I'd even have considered trading Seabrook. They've now become Tampa Bay of a few years ago. I suspect they'll have to deal one of their better players now for depth in the next few years. Heck, they should be targeting guys like our Subban who's a top pairing guy but would cost a hell of a lot talent wise but is soft on the cap. Not that we'd have been able to trade him, but when you're in that much trouble you have to get younger and cheaper, it's really the only way. Now they'll be forced into getting a guy like Turco who's over the hill and losing a young guy like Niemi after his arbitration result comes out on Saturday.

I love the Habs, but I would fall on the floor dead from shock if LA accepted this deal.

I highly doubt we'll see a trade involving 8 regular NHL players any time soon.

Price for Bernier and Simmonds

And then throw Andrei K in the deal and get Johnson

I know Andy Sutton is still available, man he would look good as a 5th D. Big body, but slow. Oh well, i would take him.

Me too.. Big body who can deliver punishing hits and clear the crease.. Good option if one of the current Habs Dmen were dealt away.. I have a feeling though the Habs D is already set with the currently signed players..

Just a friendly reminder, this thread is for Eklund rumours. If you want to talk about rumours you've made yourself, feel free to post them in the trade proposal thread.

Goaltenders like those you mentioned are exceptional, and yes they did lead their teams to Stanley Cups.

But the Red Wings and the 2010 Flyers and Hawks have proven that it's NOT necessary to have a franchise goaltender - as long as you have depth and size
If it's not the case, then you are gonna need a franchise goalie

My point is that GM's are gonna use the 2010 Cup Finals as an argument in order to obtain an excellent goalie without giving up too much

Oh nice, I meant to say trade proposals instead of rumours. That's what happens when you spend too much time outside in the sun without a hat on.

Still hearing they are talking trade and that Price may be swapped out for another starting goalie and top 6 forward...finally able to give you a clue....look one of the California teams...one who has a proven #1, and an unsigned top 6 forward....
http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklun...Flyers/1/29557

I assume he's talking about the Ducks. How would that trade even come close to making sense for them though? Or for the Habs. Hiller makes 4.5m and you have to assume Ryan will get 5-5.5m. So the Habs take on 10m. Stupid to say the least.

LOL nice try, Hiller's cap hit is 4.5 mil alone & he's signed till 2014, add Ryan's demands & we'd be way over.

We can if we move Hammer, which they need, considering they have 3 NHL defensemen.
