I'd like Niemi if he kept that sweet beard.

Assuming you sign Niemi for $2.75m (I don't think it'll be that high if he hits the open market anyway), all you need to do is:

Boucher (0.93m) + Walker (1.70m) = 2.63m

Make Bartulis the 7th instead of Walker.

in theory yes, however they will 95% not waive Walker. Wonder what the trade market for Leighton is these days lol?

You can always sign Niemi and see what happens during camp. Meaning any injuries that free up temp cap space to keep all 3 then deal with crunch later. Shooter likes that scenario anyway, seeing how well he is able to get back to being cap compliant.

Good question. Their bottom 6 already looks really weak.

Their lineup compared to last year looks so pitiful.

They might not even make the playoffs with some of those up-and-coming Western Teams on their heels. Wow.

Depth is what got them there. It quickly evaporated. Thus is the price you pay for tanking to get a Cup: one and done.

Looks that much worse without Kopecky. Not saying they won't go this route but thats a garbage bottom 6.

If the Hawks wants to deal Niemi, what can the Flyers give in return?

I think you will be very surprise next season, i think their defense squad is the main problem. So yes they lost several key players, but Bickell, Brouwer, Skille, Dowell are very talented prospects, and they have kept their main offensive power with Toews, Sharp, Kane, Hossa, Bolland... I'm not saying they will win the stanley cup next year, but they will defenitely make the playoff.

Nothing?

We'd just wait for him to be a UFA.

Screw giving assets away for nothing. It's not like there'll be much open market competition for him, if Holmgren even wants him that is.

Looks like a first-round exit to me. But walking away from Niemi doesn't allow enough room for improvement to make losing a possible long-term solution worthwhile. All it means is they can keep Kopecky, sign Turco, choose between Crawford and Toivonen, and maybe add a cheap veteran 5th/6th. That doesn't change their lot all that much text year. Better to manage with what they have now and ride out those bonus penalties.

If they walk:

Troy Brouwer ($1.025m) / Jonathan Toews ($6.300m) / Patrick Kane ($6.300m)
Kyle Beach ($1.170m) / Patrick Sharp ($3.900m) / Marian Hossa ($5.275m)
Viktor Stalberg ($0.850m) / Dave Bolland ($3.375m) / Tomas Kopecky ($1.200m)
Bryan Bickell ($0.541m) / Jeff Taffe ($0.550m) / Jack Skille ($0.600m)
Igor Makarov ($0.552m)

DEFENSEMEN
Brent Seabrook ($3.500m) / Duncan Keith ($5.538m)
Niklas Hjalmarsson ($3.500m) / Brian Campbell ($7.142m)
John Scott ($0.512m) / 998K or less UFA
Jassen Cullimore ($0.500m)

GOALTENDERS
Marty Turco ($1.500m) / Corey Crawford ($0.800m)

SALARY CAP: $59,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $58,791,590; BONUSES: $390,000

Hawks only have 48 hours to decide whether they want to keep him or let him walk, not a whole lot of leverage there. Probably just a low draft pick. Or maybe Walker and a 4th.

I seriosly duobt they even come close to missing the POs. That said, if they face injury troubles they're pretty ****ed.

They have a good top six and a good top four.

Still, their depth has been thrashed.

Why do you think teams like Philadelphia and Chicago did so well in the postseason despite bad goalies? Why do you think Detroit did the same for so many years?

Depth.

I don't think I'll be very shocked when Chicago falls to the bottom tier of the playoff competitors or even into the position of a cusp team looking from the outside in at the worst.
