I'm guessing fines were flying thick and fast after that night. The Jets for not having the proper cameras installed (according to Pat Foley), Sutter for the post game antics, and Morel for clearly missing the play when it happened live - although even though he is looking right at the net when it went in. (He may have been blocked.)

Interesting note - Kris King, who I believe now makes part of his living working in the NHL war room, was 2nd star of the game. I'd love to see someone trot out this video to him and get his opinion on it.

At the time, whether or not the puck was gloved/thrown into the net was not a reviewable offense (this was in the 1st or 2nd year of video replay for the NHL). So even though the video replay booth obviously knew it was a goal, they had no means by which to overturn the play. Same as if a goal was obviously offside now.

Because it was called a goal on the ice, the play stood.

The video replay rules were quickly changed at the next GM meeting so this couldn't happen again.

Even if the rules allowed it, back then Morel wasn't talking to Mike Murphy or Kris King in Toronto. He was talking to a local $75 a night video review judge up in the rafters with a VHS machine, who lives in Winnipeg.

This wouldn't have helped in either of the vidoes presented here.

Let's blame all the zebras too. A linesmen could have very easily told the referee what he saw and that usually is enough for a referee to use.
