Tim Kennedy

"Tim kennedy placed on waivers, likely buyout coming." (Rishaug twitter)
http://twitter.com/TSNRyanRishaug

Heres his stats:
http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=73802

08/09 67 points in 73 games in ahl.
Last year had a decent rookie year.

He is 5'10" and is 24 years old. While I think he is small he brings alot of grit and heart, after watching him last year in the playoffs, I began to know who he was and I liked his playing style.

He has decent potential and is relatively young, he could be a player we bring in for the 3rd line maybe, and still fit in with the age group of our young core.

What do you guys think?

Would rather a veteran with more size for our 3rd line.

So does Cogliano but he is signed and had more upside. Only so many rister spots to go around.

He was awarded under 1.5 million in arbitration, so Buffalo couldnt walk away, inturn had to match and buy him out if they didnt want to keep him. Thats what they were saying on the Rumors Board.

Cogliano isnt signed, unless I missed something. And is he suited for a 3rd line role? I dont think he is.

Sounds like he could be a good AHL signing. The org does need a few more pieces down there.

It seems to me he put up relatively good numbers on the 3rd line. Even in the playoffs. I see no reason why they would waive him other than the obvious. They're too small as a team. Seems like they are giving his spot to a guy like Kassian or Luke Adam. If Buffalo is waiving him because they are too small why would Tamby claim him?

Why sign him? So he can take a spot from OMark or someone else? No thanks.

No thanks. I'd rather give an open chance to Omark.

To all the people saying that he is worse than Cogliano or Omark and just takes a spot away from them:

He actually is a completely different player: Buffalo fans described him as some one fiesty, who is a bit like a pest. Maybe a bit like Brule.
So he is ways better suited for a 3rd line role than the other two, who are top six forwards.

Besides Burke (who definitely doesn't like small players overly) choosed him for Team USA over players like Gaustad or Conolly, which also has to mean something.

Besides IMO it would make quite a nice 3rd line.

Jones - Brule - Kennedy

Jones has decent size and Brule allthough not big plays at least like a normal sized guy. Besides Brule and Kennedy both play a game that is quite unsavory for their oponents

Of course I would also rather have an experienced 3rd liner, but maybe there is just no one available: We quite surely won't get Belanger, Madden or Morrison, who all will likely look for contenders and Asham also seems not to be on our list as well (Ryan Rishaug tweeted this).

Besides there is no risk in picking him up: We give him a try-out at camp and if he doesn't make the team, he gets waived again. Then he either is gone or we have another nice addition for OKC.

Obviously he has cleared waivers. Strange....
I thought that at least one team could have used him.

EDIT: Now bought out.

Obviously if he passed through waivers, then no other team thought he was worth $1 million per year either.

It's an odd case. Taking a look at the facts.

Arbitration - $1 million one year contract.

2009-10 season. Tim Kennedy scores 10 goals, 16 assists in a mostly 3rd line role with the Sabres. His salary was $635,000 last year.

It's strange that no team thought he was worth $1 million.

Saw this on the main rumors page ...

Quote:
Tim Kennedy is ready to move on from the disappointment of his ugly departure from the Sabres. Sources tell News 4 Sports that three teams are interested in signing the forward.

The Blackhawks, Oilers and Maple Leafs are vying for the services of the gritty, tough and talented left wing. Kennedy was bought-out by the Sabres last week, in a salary dispute based on Kennedy's $1 million dollar arbitration ruling.

Do not want. I really hope we don't sign this guy. He isn't what we need at all.

I actually like the kid and think that he has a fair amount of talent. He's still young and able to play in the top or bottom 6.

Which part do we not need at all? The grit? The talent? The ability to be an effective 3rd line player, which several posters have stated Cogliano does not have. Is it the cost effective price tag?

I don't believe he is a savior to the Oilers however as several have posted his price is cheap and would be a decent fit for the bottom 6. Geez, what did we just pay to have JFJ sit in the press box half the season?

I believe ERC91's post was comprehensive enough to indicate that Kennedy is in fact a player that the Oilers could use, and need. Cogliano, not so much.

He wouldn't be a bad addition, especially if it's going to cost less than a million bucks.
