Agreed. I'm actually surprised Cook was signed before him.

I told you guys this was trouble...

Rice enters training camp on Physically unable to perform list

Quote:
Wide receiver Sidney Rice said there is no doubt in his mind he will be ready for the Sept. 9 regular-season opener at New Orleans. Rice is beginning training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list and did work off to the side on Friday. Rice said he suffered the injury in the Vikings' loss to New Orleans in the NFC title game. Rice saw three specialists this offseason because of the hip problem and admitted a couple thought he should have had surgery "but but didn’t need it necessarily." Said Rice: "The plan now is just to rehab and getting everything back like it’s supposed to be.” He added that if he had had surgery he thinks he would have been out four-to-six weeks.
Rice says he'll be ready for the season opener, but it was just a month ago he said he'd be ready by training camp... bad sign!

That didn't take long!

The Vikings agreed to terms with running back Toby Gerhart on a four-year, $3.767 million deal on Friday afternoon, according to NFL sources. Gerhart's deal is worth $1.939 million guaranteed.

Gerhart is the final of the VIkings' eight draft picks to come to terms. The deal got done about three hours before the Vikings first practice of training camp and Gerhart is expected to be on the field this afternoon.

I'm not too worried about Rice's injury. He says he'll be ready for the opener so it can't be that serious.

Berrian is also healthy this year, he was bothered by the hamstring pretty much all year last year. I still don't trust his hands in traffic but he's one of the fastest WRs in the league and can beat pretty much any CB deep.

It has only been one day but apparently Percy looks great.

I'm also very excited about EJ, Winfield, and Hutch being healthy. When he got injured, some people were saying EJ might never play again and he is already back at the start of training camp.

AP says he'll be holding the ball high and tight, Tiki Barber style. He also says he's happy so maybe people will stop talking about his contract.

Now all we need is the old man....

Again, you must not remember the Birk situation when he said several times that he'd be ready for the season opener, but he wasn't... and it turned out he had a torn labrum.

Not saying this is the situation for Rice... but he said he'd be fine by training camp... well, training camp is here and he isn't fine, so now he's saying he'll be fine by the regular season... what makes his word any more solid now than it turned out to be last time?

He keeps saying if he has surgery he'd miss 6 weeks. Well guess what... it's been 6 MONTHS since the injury ocurred... don't you think he would've been better off getting the surgery back in april or may and have him healthy FOR SURE by now?

Percy Harvin Carted Off the Practice Field

Quote:
MANKATO -- Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin left the field Saturday on a cart after suffering an unknown injury during the Vikings' morning practice.

Harvin, the NFL's offensive rookie of the year last season, suffered a shoulder injury in 2009 but did not miss a game because of that problem. Harvin did miss several practices and one game because of migraine headaches.

The odd thing about what happened to Harvin on Saturday is no one saw him suffer an obvious injury. He did make what was perhaps the catch of the day in 7-on-7 drills when he bobbled a pass from Tarvaris Jackson but managed to catch the ball despite tight coverage from cornerback Asher Allen. Harvin's helmet popped off on the play as he made the catch, fell to the ground and then got up and tried to run.

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said in his post-practice news conference that he didn't even know Harvin had left on a cart until told by a member of the media relations staff. Coach Brad Childress was not scheduled to speak to reporters after the practice.

I'm not too worried about any injuries at this point. Childress seems to take the approach now of backing off on a lot of players so they're ready to go by the time the season opens. It's still a little early for me to read into anything.

And TaLoN (and everyone else for that matter), feel free to jump over to footballsfuture.com to talk some football. We've got a ton of knowledgeable people there so you'll fit right in.

After the first preseason game.

It would be hilarious to see just how awful the Vikings would be with Rosenfels and T-Jack...but I hope Favre comes back. Need something to take the mind off how bad the Wild are going to be.

The Pioneer Press reports today Favre is NOT going to return to the Vikings this season, his ankle is not healing as well as he hoped. Vikings aren't making a press conference yet about it, because they have hopes of talking Favre into changing his mind.

Stay tuned, the circus is about to begin.

Vikings Quarterback?

Well if the reports are correct, who is going to be the Vikings Quarterback this season?

Jackson?

Rosenfels?

Webb? Naw no way!

Will Minnesota look for and sign a free agent QB? And if so, who? Kurt Warner maybe? Doubt it.

Or will Brett make a dramatic comeback the last second and play again?

Good ole' Favre is playing his little game again, he does this every year so what's the difference? He just has to have an excuse in case he messes up. You know, he tried his hardest, but the ankle was just too bad that he couldn't perform well enough. He'll be back before week 1.

Seriously until Week 1 comes and goes without Favre, I'm assuming he's the starter.

I really think he is done this time.
I am sure Chili is begging and pleading with him to stay
because if he doesnt return the Vikes will be a wildcard team at best with T-Jack

Does anybody really believe that if the Drama Queen did decide to retire that he would do it by phone? This is the same guy who once called a press conference to tell everybody that there was nothing to tell them.

I sort of got a feeling he is really done this time. In that last playoff game vs the Saints he really looked like a tired old man out there. We still almost won, but I told my house guests then at half time during that game I thought then we might be looking at him the last time playing football. Obviously now this doesn't surprise me. A time has to come for athletes to just hang up those cleats. I think it's finally over.

Now the real question is, who will we get to lead the team? I don't like any of the QB's we currently got. Which is a pity. Typical Viking situation to be in, so close but never enuf. The team will be lucky to finish 8-8 this season with Jackson taking the snaps I'm afraid.

I wonder how his surgery went and if that played a major effect on his retirement plans.

this whole thing is freaking ridiculous.

What's even more preposterous is the sheer number of vikings fans who are on the ledge needing to be talked down.

Let's get a grip here folks...

I think he'll be back. This sounds like posturing. Favre will get himself a nice little pay bump and will be welcomed back like some sort of hero. You know, everything that he wants...

I yearn for a simpler time when ESPN whored out Albert Haynesworth being out of shape and the lack of a Revis Island.

Or when they didn't shill for their own programming. Better yet when they were just there for sports programming and not to break stories.

Whether or not Favre comes back, I still think we're a 10-win team with this roster. It's a really good team guys.

I think most of us think Favre will be back, and I'd be surprised if it didn't happen.

Lastly, maybe T-Jack will be better than we all think, he did get a year under Favre, maybe he learned something from him? T-Jack could be okay for us guys if Favre doesn't come back.
