Two things about Stempniak:

1. He sucks ass under pressure; he just cannot perform.
2. He is streaky.

Number 1 makes him a bad fit for the Pens.

He played well in STL when there was no pressure. Sucked some major balls with the Leafs. Then got dealt to the Yotes, and flourished. But once again, when the pressure came in the PO's, he sucked.

Not the right guy to have as a top 6 on a cup contending team.

In all fairness to Sykora, he never really got a consistant shot with Sid, Therrien pretty much demoted him instantly and even had him on the third line for a stretch.

And I'd rather just keep Dupuis than sign Stempniak for 3 million. It gives us some added flexibility, and Dupuis is a free agent after this year. Plus you can throw Dupuis in pretty much anywhere, 3rd line to 1st, and on the first PK unit.

Very sparingly was Malone used with Crosby. He had stretches where it looked like it would work (Malone had a hat trick against the Isles playing with Crosby), but it never seemed to stick. Malone-Malkin-Sykora really found their groove. That's why Shero traded for Hossa, because he was playing with nobody.

You have to find 3 million in cap space.

There is no way, IMO, that Stempniak is worth 3 million. We all thought Poni getting 3.2 was bad, but Stempniak getting 3 million when his play hasn't been close to Poni's over the last few seasons is ridiculous.

Unless I'm missing something, I think we agree.

I like the Wellwood idea, we could switch between he and Staal from the top 6 to 3rd line C. Plus hed come cheap and is RH.

If he would have done ANYTHING in the playoffs besides dissapear, chances are the Coyotes would have really tried to re sign him. I'd take him back in PHX cause he fit in great with Fids and Pyatt. Fidds got hurt and Stemp was non existent.

I think my favorite option would be to sign Wellwood and Svatos. I dont think it will happen but i do like it cause as you showed in your lines it gives us lots of depth but where was Dupuis? My 2nd Fav would be to sign Afinogenov. Just like the guy makes lots of plays happen.

Singing those two isn't like going to McDonald's and ordering a McGangbang. But if you could make it happen I'll gladly buy you a cake for your next birthday. I'd take Selanne alone but if Kariya is tossed in so be it. Both will likely end up in Anaheim or retire before the season starts.

So he cantt play under pressure? i know there is pressure in Toronto but there was not great expectations for that team, everyone knew (except Burke) they would be that bad. did it ever occur to you that its because hes a NHL goal scorer playing with AHLers? Playing along side Sid or Malkin would change that. He flourished he Phoenix during a playoff race, i think thats more pressure than playing out the string for the last place leafs
