Meszaros is training with the Slovakian National Team to prepare for the seaon

Excerpt from Euroflyers:

Quote:
Andrej Meszároš says the idea of him training with the Slovakian national team this week came from himself. Head coach, ex-NHL coach Glen Hanlon had named a young team consisting mostly of Slovakian league players to train for a tournament in Switzerland held later in the week. When Meszároš approached him, he had nothing against adding the NHL veteran on the team to show example for the younger guys.

"Andrej asked us politely if he could come to the camp in Piešťany with us", assistant coach Ľubomír Pokovič confirms. "Of course, we're happy to have him."

"I was in Trenčín last week and went on the ice with some of these young guys on the team and I met Hanlon and the other coaches", Meszároš recalls. "They told me they have a camp in Piešťany on Monday. I asked if I could come. They had nothing against it."

I'm actually really excited about Meszaros. I think he could be a dark horse, maybe even supplant Carle and Coburn.

I am not sure why most think he is going to play on the 3rd pairing. I just don't see how he can play less than Coburn or even Carle. I know there is no reason to mess up the first pairing - unless of course Meszaros can make it even better.

What side does he usually play anyway? Is he comfortable playing either side?

Not a fan of the contract/situation it creates, but Meszaros really could do big things this year. Here's to hoping he makes Holmgrem look like less of a *******!

Dude is gonna have a good year. Maybe not for that contract, but he'll be good around the guys we have.

I hope he plays well, really hope so. I'm pretty high on him.

Haven't seen him in Tampa, but with the Sens he was pretty physical.

Who do y'all see him being paired with? Pronger? Timo? Coburn? Carle? O'Donnell? Bart? Walker? Meszaros?
....
wait. Who are we talking about? And how many ****ing defensemen do we have now?

edit: but seriously folks. Where do you see him lining up on the Flyers?

I could see Mez ending up as this year's Ehrhoff. He was lambasted on the kings as "Errorhof" during the playoffs the previous year, but played fantastic for the Canucks. Mez was always ragged on for his big contract on TBL while producing nowhere near what was expected of him, but with the Sens he wasn't bad (just undeserving of top dollars).

Having watched Mez in the dub he definitely has the potential to surprise if he gets fit and keeps motivated.

meszaros is gonna have a great year. The reason holmgren made the trade is he KNEW that meszaros is worth more with us than tampa, lets face it if you were meszaros would you want to be on a playoff team or not? Say what you will about his cap management, but holmgren definitely has an eye for underperforming talent with a big contract.

kimmo/pronger
mesz/carle
coburn/walker

im not against even that lol.

although most likely:
carle/pronger
timonen/meszaros
coburn/walker

or (my favorite idea)

somehow split up the pairings into say 5 or 6 different pairings so you get:
pronger 25mins
timonen 22mins
carle 20mins
coburn 20mins
meszaros 20mins
walker 13mins

thats really the best way to utilize walker.
granted you would have to decide whether or not you want 2 dmen on the PP (which i would want, but not timonen, and i wouldnt object to trying giroux out on the point during the PP)

PP:
carter-richards-zherdev
carle-pronger

Hartnell-briere-JVR
giroux-meszaros

yo me gusta

He is a physical player and he's a good shot blocker. He lead Tampa Bay in blocked shots and was third in hits.
