i would say no from a sharks POV because i say we need to keep our top 6 intact.... and plus Streit is to valuable to the NYI... it would take a huge overpayment, which does not make sense to the sharks as we shouldnt blow up the team/farm for a D man

The majority of these proposal are just unnecessary. The Islanders would rather Streit than Clowe; the Sharks would rather Clowe than Streit.

I don't think the value is that far off its just losing their #1 d man would be hard for the Islanders to stomach even with the arrival Wiz and receiving a big body in Clowe to add to the top 6

This from the Sharks pov is similar (not exactly the same I know calm down) to the Boyle trade.

Streit is a world class dman, who produced at a high level on an anemic Islanders squad.

The Sharks don't blow up anything. Move Couture up to the 2nd line to replace Clowe, Murray is a solid hard hitting dman but expendable, sign either Belanger or Madden to center the 3rd line, and the Sharks still keep many of their young assets such as Petrecki, Coyle, Mashinter, Stalock etc etc.

They don't need to break up their top-six in doing so.

Trading Clowe and moving Couture to the top six would bring much needed speed to the top six as well as giving Couture more minutes, which he deserves based on his AHL and playoff performances.

Bad deal for both teams. The Islanders get hurt worse by what they give up than they profit from what they get, and San Jose gives up too much for a defenseman who is good, but probably not the kind they need.

Yup. I disagree with OPs assesment of what the Sharks need. I wouldn't do this from a Sharks POV either...and I don't doubt that Islander fans won't like it.

It's a bad trade for both teams. The islanders would lose our best D-Man, And SJ, would lose one of their top 6..It won't work..

I don't think the value is off but Islanders simply can't trade Streit. Their D would be a complete mess if they do.

Streit is one of those absolute untouchables on the Isles (unless of course it is a massive overpayment that included another #1 or #2 d-man coming back). The same can be said for Okposo and Tavares and a few of the other young kids.

But Jon Sim and Bruno Gervais are there for the picking...have at it fellas .

This.

The Isles are going to approach the season with the goal of making the playoffs. Trading Streit kills any chance of that...the Isles improved the D by bringing in Eaton/Wiz/Jurcina, but Streit is still the only top pairing guy they have.

What? Couture is slow, slower than Clowe.

I think they are about the same, but that doesn't change the point.

Couture plays a faster game though. Moves the puck quicker and such, but he certainly isn't much of a skater.

I don't think they're the same right now, Clowe is a much better skater right now.

OP's proposal was horrible. The revised one was better, but not enough. Anything involving Streit is 99 out of 100 times going to be shot down. Same for most of the kiddies. If you want a big body like Hunter or something go for it. Martinek (if he doesn't get injured) is probably on the block as well towards the end of the season. The Islanders are not good trading partners with most of the contenders unless you're looking to unload a 1 or 2 year contract with some real incentive.

If the Sharks need a top 4 Dman, why not take a shot at Kaberle? His value is at an alltime low.
