Schenn isn't going to be traded.

If there was a deal to be made for Semin. It would be Kaberle + for Semin with no extension.

There isn't a deal to be made. Washington has no reason to trade Semin and the Leafs have little reason to trade for Semin (it's doubtful that his salary demands fit with what the Leafs can pay).

Losing Kaberle while gaining Semin really doesn't increase playoff chances all that much....and not worth mortaging the future future for.

Yea, adding a 40 goal/90 point scorer would add nothing to the Maple Leafs. They have and have had an abundance right?

The Caps don't want a defenseman whose offensive abilities are on the downslide, and lacks defensive ability anyway.

Semin would increase their playoff chances.... but losing Kaberle would undoubtedly hurt them. Do the Leafs come out a little bit ahead? problably.... but Semin walks in a year and then we're screwed. We can't afford to pay the price he's going to be demanding. If he comes with an extension in Kessel's range....sure, but I don't see that as reality.

Agreed. Semin is one of those players that you can tell is in it for the money.

Really? What makes you think that? The Caps organization was the reason he doesn't have a long term extension, not him.

Who would you try to resign long term first? Backstrom or Semin? Not easy to give up big money to a guy who is really the number 3 or 4 most important to your team. Semin deserves big money when guys like Kovy are getting it.

had it just been about money, he wouldn't have taken a 1-year extension. Then he could have walked, and made bank on the team who missed out on Kovy.
