Maybe Matthews is only good for radio, but I don't see why he's never been asked to be the play by play guy on T.V.. Then again he might have been asked and turned it down I dunno but he is amazing at play by play in my opinion. Rimer on the other hand tries to be more than a play by play guy and it's annoying. He's there to call the action yet most of the time he's just blah blah blahing.

I'm sure Davidge is a great guy and he seemed to do well with George, but I didn't feel he ever brought anything either entertaining or insightful to his role last year. It was the same lines over and over:

1: That's as good as it gets...
2: A goal-scorer's goal...
3: You're exactly right...
4: He took away his time and space...
5: Something about Rimmer being cheap

If I thought for another 5 minutes I'm sure I could come up with another 5 and variations of those 10 lines make up 80% of his commentary. I dread another year of listening to this.
I like the enthusiasm that Bill brings, and his ability to string together two coherent sentences in a row (unlike his predecessor)

There's two possible reasons I can see that Rimer still has a job:

1. The CBJ want puppets to tell viewers that the sun is always shining inside Nationwide Arena and Rimer is happy to play the part for a paycheck.

2. The CBJ are trying to drive up season ticket sales by making the TV broadcast so bad that people will pay a few grand a year just so they don't have to listen to Rimer.
I agree with your analysis. The Blue Jackets are so flush with cash that they can keep Rimer even though all the fans hate him, he doesn't run down the team on the air, and he's obviously losing money for both the CBJ (his employer) and FOX. He should be thrilled that he's working for a charitable organization instead of smart business people.

We all love to rip on Rims for his his occasional mispronunciations, but he isn't the worst.

I just figured I'd share this gem from the Colorado broadcast crew.

Does anyone know the contract status of George Matthews? I think this guy is a great ambassador for the Blue Jackets. He's personable and just a great guy. This guy could commentate on a grass mowing and make it sound exciting.

He'll be back next season, possibly longer.

He'll be back.

He's the reason I'm a hockey fan. If I'm getting frustrated and I need a reminder that I'm here for the entertainment, I just turn on the radio for a game. Love him to death.

Speaking of George Matthews, does anybody know if Blue Jackets' radio works in Europe? I would think so, but am curious because things such as Hulu don't work.

The whole thing is painful to watch. Makes me really appreciate Rims more.

I don't have speakers connected to this computer so I can't hear the audio for the video, but if it makes you appreciate Rims more then I can only imagine how badly he butchers Brassard. Did he pronounce it bonesoup?

With Brass specifically, he just put the emfasis on the wrong silabble. "BRASS-erd"

It's the rest of the game calling that makes it wince-worthy IMO.

Next thing you know we'll be critizing Rims for pretending to be Canadian and mispronunciating 'Clumbus Ahia'.

Hogan calls it quits

Quote:
Fox Sports Ohio announced today that Hogan, 42, will relinquish his duties as a pre-game co-host on Blue Jackets Live telecasts. Ray Crawford will slide into the role alongside Bill Davidge.

Hogan is stepping aside to take on an expanding role at WBNS Channel-10, where he works as a weekend news anchor and all-star utility reporter. The guy is a pro's pro and he will be sorely missed among the CBJ media corps. Hogan was the longest-tenured Jackets broadcaster -- even pre-dating George Matthews and Davidge. In October 1999, Hogan debuted Blue Jackets Beat on Fox Sports Ohio.

This guy was the best of the bunch. 1st class. I will miss him doing Jackets game.

Now Eddie Munster can come out of the basement wherever that studio was last season.

Now we just need to get rid of Rimer and Davidge.

1st thought: Hogan is 42?

2nd thought: great, I get to see Ray Crawford and his chronic blinking syndrome even more.

Hogan was one of the best we had, the Rimer and Davidge show is a joke... I hope Arniel gets a chance to watch a Jacket game as fan so he knows the complete depth of mediocrity he's about to encounter.

Best? He always looked like a stiff in a suit to me.
Didn't seem passionate or enthusiastic.
He was ...like Jim Day.

At least Ray pretends to be enthusiastic and Rims and Davidge actually love hockey and the team. I rarely watch ESPN/Sportscenter anymore because so many of the talking-ex-jocks and talking-heads have no soul, just good writers.

We must have been watching two different Hogans.

it used to, havent checked since internet streams became availible on so many websites. but nhl.com used to have both home and away radio availible for nearly every game.

That's also one of my problems with Crawford. Not necessarily because he's enthusiastic, but he makes it feel like I'm watching a high school football pre-game show on a public broadcast channel.

I've bashed Time Warner around a bunch. Anybody with either DirectTV or Dish Network want to comment on FSNOH using their services?

Are there 1 channel or 2? Is Center Ice Blacked out?

HD?

Sports Time Ohio is a separate company owned in part by the Cleveland Indians and is not a Fox Sports channel.
