Could the Habs give Alex Henry a chance?

Capable bottom 6 defensmen who took on players like Scott Thornton, Eric Godard, Brad May, Eric Boulton, Matt Carkner and Jon Mirasty.

Probably on a cheap contract too.

Not unless you want a crappy defense.

He won't play D for us thats for sure.

If we want a goon, we would be better served just signing a guy like McGratton. I'm sure we could get him on a 1 way deal at around 600k.

Let me guess, you believe we need an enforcer?

Alex Henry is not in the NHL right now, and hasn't been because he simply does not have the skillset required to play in today's NHL.

Sadly...not much...Jay Leach was quite alright, all things considered in his 7 game stint with the habs and we did not keep him...

Bottom 6 defenseman? Aren't there only 6 defensemen?

He would have a chance to play if Brent Sutter was the coach, with Martin, unless we're desperate, forget it, too slow and tough for his lineup...

Career AHLer. He will only play when 3 of our d are injured which means, at most, 2 to 3 games a season.

I would give him a shot on the 4th line instead. He would be more usefull at this position asuming he cam play in a decent way by keeping it simple.

Yup. We already have, 7 d with a good chance to make the team, then Picard, then good youngsters in Weber and Carle, and then Henry. Sure, give him a chance...

Until or unless Nash or Klubertanz show some NHL potential (they may or may not have it, we just haven't seen yet), then I think Henry realistically comes "only" after Picard, Weber, and Carle. That isn't exactly much of a chance. Heaven forbid our injury situation ever gets that bad. But who knows, flip side, if the team seems to struggle for toughness, if there's a bit of a paradigm shift in the NHL next season that places more of a premium on toughness, and all we're looking to do is plug a guy in the #6/7 spot, maybe it would be less disruptive to the kids to just give Henry the brief promotion ahead of them.

Nope... Never... Not in a million years... We have a lot of depth on defence and we don't need Henry. He does his job well in the AHL and he should stay there. Better to give a chance to Carle or Weber. I'd rather have Wyman than him.

No room for him or else I wouldn't mind keeping him on as the #7.

O'Byrne, Markov, Spacek, Hamrlik, Subban, Gill, Gorges - that's 7. We're pretty set. And after that, we have Carle. Not to mention Weber, who I think will bounce back.

Henry as a #7 works for me if we didn't have to waive Carle or trade one of the top-7.

Little known fact; he was the captain of the Minnesota Wild for 1-month.

I would like to see Henry make the Habs if they were going to carry 23 players. He would fill 3 roles he could be the 14 forward/8 dman/and the goon the team is lacking plus he would come cheap and he wouldn't mind sitting in the press box for 5 -10 games at a time. It would be the perfect role for him. With the salary cap I don't see the Habs carrying 23 players I think they will carry 13 forwards/7d-men/2 goaltenders.

Unfortunately probably not going to happen. He would be the best fighter on the Habs(which is sad in itself) but as long as Martin is in place there will be no one that will dare drop the gloves without fear of reprisal. They will continue to watch their guys get their faces caved in. I love the soft gentle habs.

You suggesting that the guy who played the shut down role in the AHL playoffs last year is a bottom six? Ask Jamie Benn from Texas if he enjoyed playing against him, yes I know we lost but it went to the 7th game of the semi finals and Henry was as much responsible for getting us there as any of the prospects. From a Dogs fans prospective we will be delighted to have him down here all year.

What the heck were you trying to prove? Ever heard of covering needs? I don't need a list on defensmens rated purely on talent. Henry would fill something i need that is an importance againts a lot of teams in the eastern conference, namely the Leafs, Senators, Flyers, Rangers, Trashers, Penguins and Bruins. If you guys don't want him on D then make a 4th liner, we know he's defensively responsible.

AS for the "i don't believe in goons anymore" crap, The FA market should of rang a bell to a lot of posters here, they're not going anywhere...

In his defense he did play 177 NHL games and was once the captain of the Minessota Wild.

Minnessota has been rotating captaincy every couple of games for years. If it weren't of Mikko Koivu being awesome they'd probably still do that (and you'd see hilarious things like Latendresse being captain. lol)
