First off, I'm against a Mike Commodore acquisition. The man's no better than Douglas Murray. Not a minute-eater. Not mobile. Not that good at the shutdown role.
Secondly, you'd rather make a lateral move as opposed to one that makes the team better? In reality, moving prospects is based on needs and expectations. There are only a handful of players outside the pro roster that's actually expected to be an impact player for the team in the future. Everyone else is a maybe, could be, or long shot. And how many of those do you really need to have? If a trade is out there that involves acquiring a top four d-man that would fit what we're looking for, I would damn sure pull the trigger if it needed to include a Charlie Coyle and a 1st and the value was right.
You and I are pretty much in agreement about getting Mike Commodore...
Not to be rude or anything of the sort, but what would you suggest that the Sharks do to address their soft defense? Since in many posts I've seen you're opposed to trading Clowe and breaking up the top 6. Ideas?
I've repeatedly said that the only thing the Sharks should do to address their piss poor top end blue line depth involves things like McGinn or Mitchell or Murray or Huskins plus prospects/picks to get them.
We just drafted a handful of players and we have all our picks next year plus plenty in the system. Enough of which can be dealt for what the team needs...especially when one of the options is Sheldon Souray, who can be had for any salary in return.
Hon, you know I love you, but I'm this close to setting you on fire.
Tyutin isn't readily available because he's our only effective two-way guy who can play in the top-4 - Russell isn't quite there yet. Now is also a bad time to trade him, because his value is low since we discovered the hard way last year that he can't carry the top defense pairing by himself, so his value is at a relative low. It'd be more sensible for us to just keep him and play him where he works well.
Remember - when you're a hockey fan, it's not "reckless driving", it's "good forechecking".
