First I am going to go by a gut feeling here... Pardy won't be with the team and when/if Langkow is healthy Kotalik and Moss will no longer be with the club....

my lines with my predicted production...

with Langkow healthy...

Forwards (189 goals)

Alex Tanguay (13g) - Olli Jokinen (22g) - Iginla (35g)
Mikael Backlund (13g) - Daymond Langkow (16g) - Rene Bourque (25g)
Niklas Hagman (22g) - Matt Stajan (17g) - Curtis Glencross (14g)
Matt Stone (2g)/Raitis Ivanans (1g) - Brett Sutter (4g) - Tim Jackman (5g)

Defense (38 goals)

Jay Bouwmeester (8g) - Steve Staios (1g)
Robyn Regehr (2g) - Ian White (12g)
Mark Giordano (12g) - Cory Sarich (1g)
Matt Pelech (2g)

Well if Jokinen and Iginla can be fed the puck by Tanguay then it will work HOPEFULLY. But you are right that combo was pretty ineffectual last year. It could also have been the fact that they played with 9 different left wingers too or something ridiculous like that.

i think these are very plausible lines but i don't think hagman is much of a checker. also i do think that top line will be forced alot but i wish backlund and hagman could be paired with joker. backlund can playmake for the fins. i think if lank is healthy him with iggy and tangs would be a better combo and give some defensive awareness and also cause turnovers to create offense. i think iggy will get back to 40 goals this year it may be a stretch but is very attainable with a playmaker on his line.

Backlund's first style of play is not a play maker.... he can be sure but he is traditionally a shooter and closer.

Langkow does not belong anywhere near our top line. Tanguay is decent defensively, Joker is average and Iggy is not a liability so that is not an issue.

Hagman is actually very effective in a checking role (his best season was in Dallas in that role). He is by no means a top notch checker but him on a line with Lanks and Bourque would be an amzing checking line because they could force a lot of turn overs and play in the other end a lot.

Iggy will get back to about 40 imo.

Yup assuming Langkow will be back is one thing let alone suddenly pencilling him for forst line minutes. His accident was a total freak show, terrible to watch and very serious. I hope he will come back guns blazing but it will take him time... I say assume he is on the LTIR for some time to come.

Some very tough decisions to make due to the salary cap. IF no more moves are made, IF Langkow is 100% then I would make some controversial moves. I would actually keep Kotalik as we need scoring. One thing I would not worry about is the veterans or the dressing room. They all know it's a business and as well this team hasn't done anything in 6 years so they are not owed anything IMO.

Here goes:

Place Sarich and Moss on waivers, demote to Abbotsford if they clear.

My lineup:

Kiprusoff/Karlsson

Pelech/Bouwmeester
White/Regehr
Staois/Giordano
Pardy

Tanguay/Stajan/Iginla
Backlund/Jokinen/Kotalik
Hagman/Langkow/Bourque
Glencross/Stone/Jackman
Ivanans

$58.2 million cap hit. Recall Sarich/Moss if anyone hits LITR or in March when their cap hits are low.

I would have liked to have kept Sarich over Staois but the savings was $900,000.

Langkow has been skating and training hard for the last week. He still has 8 weeks before the season starts. That is plenty of time to get into decent shape and get the legs back. I would not be surprised to see him playing the first game.

Pelech with Boumeester?

Waiving Sarich and Moss when they could be traded?

Kotalik because we need offence?

This is a joke right?

No it's not a joke, read my post, "assuming no more moves are made". Sutter may have no choice but demotions to get under the cap. Take a look at the depth charts around the NHL combined with their cap charts. Who takes Sarich in a trade without the Flames taking salary back? Sarich is owed $7.2 million for next 2 years and is a 3rd pairing defenceman and is of the out of style "physical, stay at home" type of defenseman.

Pelech with Bouw doesn't mean he plays PP, PK or significant time in the 3rd. That's why there are coaches on the bench.

It all comes down to the salary cap. I guess we could keep the combo of Sarich/Moss and demote the combo of Staois/Kotalik. I just wonder what Kotalik could deliver if he gets some confidence.

Article on Flames website said he has been given medical approval to skate and train.
