PS And yes, the pun was intended.
The comments are spot on.
She really is a terrible journalist and writer. Everything she puts out are fluff pieces. Who knows if it is due to an edict from Wang or she's just a terrible reporter.
It's getting to the point that, as a matter of self-respect, Howie should quit the TV gig. I guess he might need the money, dunno if he has kids in college, but he's probably not going to get a better TV gig. The Isles aren't doing anything for him. He's one of the best radio play by play guys, period. It's getting to the point that doing Isles games, in a simulcast setting, with a revolving cast of homers (a la Michael Kay, ugh), will only hurt his reputation.

Jaffe is very good, sorry to see him go. You are right about Kay ( and im a Yankee fan), and imo Howie should stick to baseball, hes really not that good of a hockey announcer. Jaffe will be missed.

That's a very good point about Michael Kay. Back when he was doing games with Sterling on the radio, they were seen as one of the best pairings in the business. Since they've been separated, they both get killed (somewhat justified for Sterling, less so for Kay).
I don't think this affects Howie too much since the Islander broadcasts aren't watched by many and since the only thing our fans complain about is the fact that he's a Ranger fan.

Well, I mean, I always saw his bad side, but I thought the fact that he kept the team here and seemed to care about how it did was good enough to keep him around. Now I know better.
It comes free, when you support the Cablevision monopoly.
On a partially related note, Newsday has upped their prices and significantly reduced the size of their actual newspaper. Figured I'd add that info for the out-of-towners.
Honestly, I'd rather have no response to my letter then this response from the Islanders.
Thanks for the email regarding Bill Jaffe’s service here with the Islanders.
We appreciate all the work Billy has done for the Islanders. We wish him well, and look forward to working with MSG Network on finding a suitable replacement.

We appreciate all the work Ziggy has done for the Islanders. We wish him well, and look forward to working with Mike Milbury on finding a suitable replacement.
Thanks for all the support.

What did you expect? Honestly.
While MUCH of what Wang has done in terms of managing this teams has been complete bush league, that is actually a pretty nice response. Positive, professional and a good PR move.
Obviously you weren't going to receive any "scoop" in the reply (nor are you owed any in depth explanation) so I think that email is a nice gesture. If you'd rather have no response, you should not have sent a letter in the first place.

I got the exact, word for word response from them this morning. The "suitable replacement" part really ticked me off.
I got the same canned response. I guess it actually exceeded my expectations, I didn't think they would reply at all. Oh well.
Im going to send another email from my other addy. I doubt any difference would be made but I just want them to get as many complaining emails as possible. They might not listen to us but we should let the team know how we feel as fans. More emails = more attention to the issue.

Who's next outta here?

The New York Islanders are proud to announce The Metal ***** will be replacing OlTimeHockey on HF Boards! We're very excited in bringing you the new and exciting commentary on the team and know you will grow to love her!
You don't think Wang would tell a reporter not to write certain things? I've got a bridge to sell you as well.
Wang and his brass can limit her access to the team to the absolute minimum if they don't like what she's writing.
Limit Newsday access? Not let a Dolan owned paper have what little scoop they even want? (Which no offense is not alot.) Yea then the Islanders would get no newspaper anywhere even mentioning them and Dolan could in return go and put your team on a random low def cable channel with no notice every game night too.
Like I said it's the second one. Even if Wang did limit what people said to her that doesn't mean everything she does has to suck. Mostly all she does is go to press conferences with maybe a couple of others (Chris Botta? Some bloggers? An AP reporter?) and maybe make a few phone calls sometimes. What would cutting Newsday off be, not even talking to the media after games anymore? Yea that's just what a team struggling to sell tickets would do.
The Islanders do not have the pull in the media relationship. If you think I'm wrong, you're the one who is ready to buy bridges.
i can't fathom a sports team, that's struggling to sell season tickets, given the recent history around the club is not on a PR rampage. It's one thing for Snow to be all "cool like Lamoriello" and stay-the-course unlike Milbury but why the team wouldn't spend money on hyping what they do have, working with bloggers, newspapers, etc to build excitement is beyond me.
Hiding behind controversy is no way to behave, this isn't 1950 when you could buy ad space on TV or a national paper and have your one-way message heard.
In Toronto, the LAST THING Burke needs to do is sell tickets. But he's all over the media every chance he gets. The Leafs on in the news more in August than the Islanders are all year round.
Team needs to embrace their challenges, past failures and rally around them. It's insulting to the paying fans to hide behind "standard press releases" on issues that concern the team, concern the paying customers.
Getting really tired of this show (understatement of the minute!)
i understand all the displeasure with this team and where it stands in the PR department, but saying you won't spend another dime on the team because of some personal changes is beyond me. The jankowski thing was a head scratcher tho, and that deff pissed me off, but getting rid of trotts and jaffe well... I really don't think that is going to impact the on ice product. as most of you, I didn't like jaffe at first either but yea he grew on me, kinda like how joe grew on me after he came in after westfall. I dunno, it doesnt really bother me much who the color guy is for the games. I understand why no one wants to invest any more money into this team, but honestly, why now? Why not in 98-99 or 99-00? I am very pleased with the direction this franchise is going as far as the on ice product is concerned, sure we didn't make a splash in free agency, however , I think the kids will progress nicely. If Wang has a hand in destroying the on ice product (ie trading okposo or tavares for nothing) than and only than will i stop giving money to this franchise. or if he moves the team than ill just be a hockey fan with no favorite team
