I agree that Dean should put the supposed 13/80 back on the table. But my thinking is that NJ will offer something like 13/91, which he will take.
Only reason NJ managed to sign Kovy is that they made it possible to meet the 100m/10yrs(close to it atleast) and still get such a low cap hit. Now that possibility is gone, for both of them. I don't think NJ either wants or possibly can work with a 7m cap hit. And with the chance of being fined at the very least 1m to the cap will almost eliminate the chance/risk of Kovy staying in NJ.

From what's been said about article 26, a fine would another drawn out process, and it's unlikely.
New Jersey can't do anything until they hear from the league what the fine (if any) will be, so I would expect that information to be forthcoming ASAP, since I'm sure NJ is saying to Bettman "tell us how much you're going to stick it to us in terms of a cap penalty so we know what we're working with".

If I was Bettman, I would tell them to **** off and I will get to your fine in a few weeks.
Kovy will end up in NJ, but I would still kill to have the guy on Kopi's wing.
NJ has to severley rethink its long term plans...cuz if the restructured contract adds another mill to their cap hit, then they will really struggle capwise for the next 3 years. Pairse is up next year, and i think thats thier franchise player.
They have no D, a goalie who is close to retirement. Do they really want 14+ mill locked up in 2 players that play the same position? (I would assume Pairse would command a similar salary).
I would love to get some quotes from Kovalchuk now. He's been silent except for the prepared statement at the press conference. Wonder what his mom has to say?

Unless Kovy is embarrassed by the whole situation and wants nothing to do with the Devils or the State of New Jersey anymore. Which is very possible. Even Devils fans are hearing it.
If all NJ can offer is a deal very similar to Dean's 13/80 (which is very possible, unless they are willing to risk Parise), we will know where Kovy wanted to be all along.
I just don't see why DL wouldn't continue to pursue Kovy. Why make a trade when it will cost you prospects+roster player, and that player will already most likely have a cap hit between 3.5-7mil, rather than just sign a way better player in Kovy for around 5.3mil, and not have to trade anyone/thing in the process.

^^^^^ All this is GOOD NEWS for the Kings.
DL has spent well below the cap since day 1, let's see if he can use it for a game-changing player.
Although when Broduer retires (2 - 4 yrs from now?), that will free up some $$. But that sure ain't helping them right now is it?

Give it some time. They have to get a new recording loaded before Grossman pulls his string.
