LMAO!!! That's hilarious. I have a new found respect for Dekanich battling for the backup job.

So is the backup position pretty much Dekanich vs Lindback? I imagine Pickard needs more time and signing a vet would just cause a log jam in Milwaukee...

Just over a half a million for a backup 24 year old is pretty good in my mind! I think Is Dekanich fails, then next season Lindback is for sure the backup! But I am very happy with this signing, I am glad that it most likely seems now that Poile will go from within for a backup rather than out of market.

I mean, Rinne should be able to play 70 games as head goalie. So Dekanich most likely will be backup that gets 12 games in at the NHL level. I think that 12 games is definitely enough for him to prove what he is capable of. He has been strong at the AHL level. I am very excited to see him get a shot next season! Very happy Poile has not signed some veteran old goalie that has no future with us at all!

I still want Theo.

70 games seems like a lot, and we all know what happens when our #1 takes the reins. It wouldnt be the first..er..second..um..third time that a #1 falters.

Not saying that Pekka would, but there isnt a lot of insurance there.

Im going to disagree slightly with you on one point.

Our starters did not falter. Our backups simply outplayed them. Vokoun, Mason, and Ellis did not play badly the years they lost the starting job, there was simply somebody else on the team playing better than them. The fact the all three of our usurped goalies are now starters (in the same divison ) shows that we just had a stacked system.

That's just not right. Vokoun was traded, so yes he lost his starting job here. Mason and Ellis lost the edge. If you remember back, there was a point when neither Mason (the starter) or Ellis could stop a beach ball. Peks was trapped by the snow storm and Ellis finally played to his potential for a few games. The following year Peks ended up the starter because Ellis did not play well.
As far as stacked system, well Vokes has lost the starting job in Florida a couple of times, Mason has been mediocre in St Louis. They felt they could do better and let him walk. We'll see what Ellis can do but I honestly don't hold much hope for him at this moment. Hardly the track record of a "stacked" system.

Well I think I can see it both ways, but my bottom line remains the same.

History is not on our side and we are betting on Pekka being the slump buster. I guess there has to be one eventually, but I would still feel a lot better with a veteran around.

As a side note, this alone will be worth picking up the NHL Center Ice package. I cant wait to see these guys go at each other.
