Predators lure Jeff Cogen from Stars

Don't know much about the guy(other than he was the Star's President) or if Dallas even wanted him back but apparently he's leaving for Nashville. Any insight from Star's fans would be appreciated? Feel free to discuss....

mods, not really sure if this belongs in the business section or here feel free to move, thanks!

His contract expired in June, he was reupped because new management would probably end up replacing him anyways.

Lured is kinda strong. He was without a contract, was a Hicks guy who was a washout with the Texas rangers and given the smaller job (based on budget) of the stars and screwed that up as well (see Starscenter Duncanville fiasco, poor attendence, and to many the Newy hire)

That's ESPN's words not mine, just to clarify.

Yeah but a "predator" "luring" someone will generate more hits for ESPN

I did and it sounds to me like he wasn't directly involved in the situation with the Duncanville Starscenter until he was contacted directly by the actual hockey community affected by the decision, at which point he became very involved and realized the error of the decision and immediately attempted to rectify the situation and save the arena, but by that time...the Stars had burnt all their goodwill with the City Council and the city went ahead with the plans to close the rink after being presented with the opportunity to save it.

A good article on the whole situation:
http://www.defendingbigd.com/2009/9/...d-story-behind

I think Cogen himself would probably admit that was a big time mistake overlooking the situation until it got way too far out of hand, but I believe it's likely something he has learned from and hopefully will grow from.

Cogen and Henry said this afternoon on the radio that they were both familiar with the Dallas Initiative and will be spending the early part of their tenure in Nashville examining ways the franchise can help build new facilities throughout the community and continue the growth of youth hockey in the area.
