yeah I know this is a hockey forum, but such a contract couldn't go unnoticed!

96 million british pounds / 4 years

equals to 160$ million / 4 years

With our cap space we could sign him for a month and a half.

Doesn't surprise me. You can't compare that stuff, we have 4 major sports & all of them allow trades.

Over there they have 1 sport, 2 with Hockey(but only a hand full of countries) with no trades(they have to buy players). Cities like London have 7 or 8 major teams, very different world.

Does a single player even have that much impact in a soccer game? Seems like the individual would have less than most other popular team sports (like hockey having less than basketball)?

But I guess there is so much money concentrated into that sport it wouldn't matter for some crazy billionaire owner.

Great skill and technical ability...but that doesn't always translate out on the pitch

40milion USD/year?

That's more than twice what C.Ronaldo makes for a player who's not even top 10 in the world?

That can't be right?

You can trade, it almost never happens though, and when it does one party would send money too

Loved him when he was with Juve but that is a crazy contract, I am glad the NHL has a salary cap.

Hey it's Zlatan!

Atletico Madrid doubled their Merch sales after aquiring David Beckham, making close to $600 M while spending $27 M....
Pretty good deal for Madrid all in all.

LA Galaxy sold $25 M worth of Beckham Merch before he had played a single game. And he will earn $32 N over five years.

But I do agree it is an insane amount of money.

It would be a great move for barcelona to get rid of him. He's got all the skills and size, but he has trouble putting it all together, and he isnt exactly a low maintenance guy. Plus, as the games get bigger, ibra folds. Barcelona signed David Villa in the spring and I'll take him over ibra anyday.

Its not a surprise that man city is throwing money around like this, though. They are spending money like its just dirt. It will be interesting to see how all these guys that they have purchased will come together.
