Rangers Prospect Poll #23

Jyri Niemi skates in at #23. Acquired from the New York Islanders for a 2010 6th round pick, skating for the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL, Niemi put together a total of 8 goals 21 assists and 29 points, with 67 PIMs and a +9 rating in 50 games. A winner of the 2008 Hardest slap shot contest clocking in at 97 mph, Niemi also ranked 1st among rookie defensemen in goals (14) in the 2007-2008 season, as well as 3rd in rookie points (34). Considered a good skater, stick handler, and well poised, he switched over from forward 4+ seasons ago. Captained the Finnish junior team 2010. His defensive game still needs to improve in order for him to make the jump to the pro level.

went with Williams. I'd like to know from one of our Hartford folks how good/bad Williams is. Last season, he went on a bit of a tear scoring 12 points in 17 games from mid-January to Feb. Did he earn those points or did he just benefit from the good play of others?

Kveton, I think talent-wise he's by far the best left, unfortunately it doesn't look likely that he'll come over.

Nigel Williams, for like the 4th one in a row. only 22 and already a very serviceable pro and projects like Fasth, Yogan, Niemi are going ahead of him?

every Hartford fan I know was complaining about his play last year. If you're 22 and not a "good" AHL defenseman, chances are you wont be an NHLer.

Sauer and Potter were better at the same age and have only gotten sniffs of the NHL

I just want to know what was up with that 12 points in 17 games streak near the mid-end of the season. was he having a breakthrough? And if age is a leading indicator, Gilroy is screwed. just because you've played games in the NHL doesn't mean you'll stick. There's no two ways about it. He needs to get better. Either to have a breakthrough or to increase his trade value.

No problem with Williams getting placed this low though.
