I've never done one,but is there some work I can begin to do now that will help me when I start to get it together?

What space, where 'bouts (Cleveland? how cold, how much snow etc), how level (not how flat and check don't guess), what budget for time and money and physical energy do you have to work with?

Ground is pretty flat in th area I would like to place it. Need to check the level.Would like a quality liner.Probably nothing fancy as far as boards go.Just enough to go a few inches above ice level.

Make sure the ground is level. You might want to considering putting the boards up in the next month or 2.

Yeah if you are going to be outside for a long time for something that could be done when it is warm, do that. Not sure how you are going to do the rink, but if you are putting down a plastic lining then search the area for any sharp objects.

you should stake out the area where you want to put your rink with some construction bars then put up some string attached to the bars, then using a string leveler you should be able to determine how level your ground is
