If the team is terrible again... stay the course, continue to improve the squad where you can, and try to be better next year.

We knew way before DR left, that this was not going to be a situation that would allow the roster to be fixed overnight. The team is clearly making progress, something that has been rare in these parts. As long as progress continues, nothing to worry about right now.

Yes we do have some new faces but overall our team is still great

Brouwer-Toews-Kane (Same 1st line we had most of last year)
Stalberg/Beach -Sharp-Hossa (Beach needs a year in AHL most likely)
Makarov/Kennedy-Bolland-Skille (Hawks might sign Tim Kennedy according to rumors)
Bickell-Dowell-Kopecky

Keith-Seabrook
Campbell-Hjalmarsson
Hendry-Boynton (Maybe Vishnevskiy if he wins a spot)
Scott as enforcer + Spot 4th line forward/occasional dman

Turco
Crawford (Toivonen will compete for #2 spot)

We also have a decent amount of cap room in the event of injuries or we need to add a player at deadline

As for the topic

If the Wild falter this year the best thing for them to do is to try and move guys like Madden , Nolan and Harding at deadline

-A few playoff teams might be interested in Madden or Nolan for a playoff run
-If Harding does well this upcoming year and a team like Flyers falters in net he could be very valuable at deadline

Only way I see you being able to move either Havlat or Backstrom would be to take back a a large salary/Length deal to help offset the negative effect there salary + length may have

Something like Backstrom for 4 mil player signed for 3 years + something might be feasible at deadline

I did some regression analysis on this:

Using that equation and extrapolating, I think it's pretty clear:

It appears that by the 2015-2016 season, the Wild will indeed finish with negative points.

Since no one else touched this:
-If we can move Nolan for something, that would be amazing and probably make up for not trading him at the deadline. It would also make Chuck Fletcher the world's greatest GM.

-Backstrom has a NTC.

-Harding could be a good trade bait, but I'm skeptical on depending on it. He still needs to prove his worth as a starter for a playoff team.

-There's really no reason to trade Martin Havlat at this juncture because like you said, it would be for someone who has a negative effect in salary even more than Havlat. I don't see how that helps now or in the future more than Martin Havlat would.

If we're "out of it" and clearly sellers at the deadline, we should sell off Madden, Brunette, Miettinen, and try to get Harding out of there as he'll be a UFA so we will probably be looking to trade him unless something happens to Backstrom, or we can unload him earlier in the year which could happen maybe with some injuries, but with overloaded goalie market, I think we will see Harding hitting the FA market next year.
