Crossfit??

Anyone use this for off ice training? Off season or during the season? Our season runs for 4 months, with a 2 month break, basically all year. We usually play 1 or 2 games a week. I'm thinking of adding this. I was just wondering if it might be over training during the season.

Thanks!

Crossfit is GPP. Do you need GPP? Look at what your objectives are and do things towards achieving them.

But considering how terrible most hockey players train, go for it, this is much better than most of what's out there.

I've never done it, but it seems like a "general fitness" program.

If you're playing competitive hockey, it might be better to do a specialized program, especially if you're already in shape.

What are you trying to accomplish with the training?

My sons Peewee AA team hired a personal trainer last year to conduct the teams dryland training. He was a certified Level 1 crossfit instructor (along with alot of other stuff).

His workouts incorporated many "crossfit" type exercises. While I agree that "some" sport specific exercises should be done, don't limit yourself to that only.

Crossfit is great...it's very addictive!!! I've done it and it might look easy on paper, but damn!!!! Did I mention that it's addictive!!!

Best of luck

GPP = General Physical Preparation.

CrossFit is great for whipping yourself into good shape, but it is not sport specific. I imagine that, unless you're a pro-level hockey player, you're probably going to benefit from CrossFit.

As for whether doing that on top of your own program is overtraining... well... I can't help you much there.

Are you playing at a high level? How many practices per week do you have? How many off-ice training sessions per week?

I kind of want to give CrossFit a try, but it sure isn't cheap!
