Another update on Eric Boulton - he scored his first goal of the season tonight against the Louisiana IceGators, a power play goal in the 3rd to tie the game at 1 apiece, earning him the night's Third Star selection. Just an absolutely beautiful slapshot. He also nearly threw some punches, but stayed out of the box tonight. Thus far he has 1 goal, 1 assist, and 4 PIM. Us Inferno fans have taking a liking to him, and tonight was the first game I've seen him in where he was playing an A game. Landed some solid checks, skated well, and he played hard.

Barrie fans have been calling for the deal all year, so I'm guessing they're pretty happy about it. I think this is his fourth team in four OHL seasons.

Campbell has been a huge surprise for me. I never would've thought he'd be that good. He's just a perfect fit for team Jokerit since they don't have another that kind of d-man. He's definitely one of the best acquisitions among lockout-players in SM-liiga.

Andrew Peters has returned to Boden and Sweden after healing his injury and taking care of a family affair. Peters made his welcomed comeback on Friday when Boden lost at home versus Almtuna (2-5), he started the game as an extra forward and registrated 2 min for elbowing.

Boden is looking to add more players when the next transferwindow opens up, they lost one of their centerforwards when Stefan Henriksson left the team to concentrate on his studies.

Another update. The next one shouldn't take so long.

I'd appreciate if someone could fill me in on the playoffs in some of the European leagues as many of my stat sources don't seem to include them.

Clicking a player's name will bring you to his HockeyDB.com profile or, in the case of Rochester players, their theAHL.com one. If there is an alternative link, it is recommended you click it instead as it will likely be more up-to-date. Please let me know of any corrections, useful alternative links, or other information.

Be sure to check out the oft-update Sabres CHL Prospect Update thread. There are some great game-by-game updates.

Sabres Abroad
Afinogenov, Maxim - F - Dynamo Moscow (RSL) Alternative Link
25 GP, 9 + 6 = 15, n/a, 84 PIM

Boulton, Eric - F - Columbia (ECHL) Alternative Link
15 GP, 5 + 6 = 11, +4, 24 PIM

Briere, Daniel - F - SC Bern (Swiss) Alternative Link: 1 | 2
31 GP, 14 + 22 = 36, n/a, 22 PIM

Campbell, Brian - D - Jokerit (FNL) Alternative Link: 1 | 2
31 GP, 11 + 11 = 22, +17, 6 PIM
Notes: 8th in points among defensemen despite playing a handful less games than anyone above him; has one of the better +/- among the defensemen scoring leaders. He is also 18th in the league among all foreign players.

Connolly, Tim - F - SC Langnau (Swiss) Alternative Link
16 GP, 8 + 3 = 11, n/a, 14 PIM
Notes: Another thread mentions that Tim has recently returned to North America, but I do not know why. According to his club's site (click Alternative Link), he has been listed as verletzt (hurt) the past bunch of games. Whether this means he is literally hurt or simply inactive, I am not sure. If he is hurt, that may explain why he is back home (to recuperate). Any information would be appreciated.

Hecht, Jochen - F - Adler Mannheim (DEL) Alternative Link
37 GP, 12 + 28 = 40, +9, 104 PIM

Kalinin, Dmitri - D - Metallurg Magnitogorsk (RSL)

1.76 GAA, .944 SV% (see note above)
15 GP, W 8 - L 3 - T 4, 1 SO, 1.58 GAA, .942 SV%
Notes: It is worth mentioning that Mika has been unable to lock the starting job from young Miika Wiikman, despite having considerably better statistics (as you can see in Alternative Link 1).

Peters, Andrew - F - Bodens IK (ALLSVENSKAN NORRA)
8 GP, 1 + 2 = 3, -2, 101 PIM*
Notes: Can't find the stats.

Notes: I have no clue what "grundserien" and "superallsvenskan" are. Superallsvenskan = playoffs?

Satan, Miroslav - F - Bratislava SH (Slovak)
6 GP, 4 + 3 = 7, n/a, 2 PIM
Notes: Just realized previously I was using last year's stats from when he was a holdout. Still seems as if he only played a few games then quit.

Tallinder, Henrik - D - Linköping HK (SEL) Alternative Link
39 GP, 6 + 9 = 15, +32, 59 PIM
Notes: Leads his team in +/-

Connolly is currently injured, but he's expected to be back in Langnau later this season. I'm not sure about the timing, but as far as I know, this is a minor injury.

You´ll find the stats on this site, so much better and always updated.
http://stats.swehockey.se/start.htm

Allsvenskan is a league just below Elitserien (known as the SEL on this forum), the league is divided into two conferences: Allsvenskan Norra (North) & Allsvenskan Södra (South).

The first part of the regular season is played separately over 32 rounds (ended before christmas), the top four teams of each conference then go on to play in SuperAllsvenskan (14 rounds). The current scoring leader of SuperAllsvenskan is Michael Ryder of Leksand with 11 (8+3) points, Taylor Pyatt has 2 goals in 7 games so far.

The remaining teams of each conference continue to play in their respective conference (14 rounds), without the top teams of course. Those "leagues" are labeled as Allsvenskan Norra Vår & Allsvenskan Södra Vår. The current scoring leader of Allsvenskan Norra Vår is the norwegian forward Anders Bastiansen with 17 points (7+10), Andrew Peters has 1 goal in 6 games so far.

The playoffs begin in March.

The swedish word "Vår" is translated into english as spring, "grundserien" means regular season.

The numbers for Andrew Peters on this site have been added for Allsvenskan Norra & Allsvenskan Norra Vår. Taylor Pyatt's numbers are of course from Allsvenskan Södra & SuperAllsvenskan.

You´ll find the combined numbers under "Historical database", select "Players by Team". Choose Allsvenskan for Bodens IK & Hammarby IF, team and season.
Good luck!

Alright, Boulton was back in our lineup tonight after being gone nearly a month due to immigration issues. Luckily because his wife and kids are American, Boulton was able to request work authorization from the INS after initially being told he couldn't play due to the visa issue affecting the minor leagues this season. In his first night back, Boulton managed to goad one of Charlotte's players (Charlotte being the ECHL affiliate of the Rangers) into a game misconduct. Otherwise, the only time he appeared in tonight's box score was for a tripping penalty and a cross-checking penalty, both in the first period.

TBN article on Sabres in other leagues
Locked-out Sabres join Foreign Legion

Interesting tidbits:
Connolly's season was ended by a minor knee injury.

Daniel Briere has moved his family to Switzerland and has been reuinited on a line with JP Dumont. Jochen Hecht is having a good season with Adler Mannheim in the German league, and Briere and Hecht have talked about joining him there next season to reuinite their line.

Brian Campbell is having a tremendous season for Jokerit in the Finnish League.

Eric Boulton is outscoring Curtis Brown in the ECHL despite playing in 11 less games.

Pyatt's decision to play in the Swedish minors was a disappointment. The Sabres would have preferred he played at a higher level.

As the ECHL playoffs start, time for another Boulton update. Eric's done well for himself on the Inferno, winning the team's "Too Tough To Tame" award after 2 fights in which he KO'd his opponents after but a few shots, including a fight with South Carolina Stingrays tough guy Robin Gomez. Offensively, Boulton did pretty well, 23 goals, 16 assists, a +10 rating...and 124 penalty minutes, despite missing about 20 games while his visa status was cleared up. He'll miss the first game of our playoff series against the Charlotte Checkers (the team he last played for in the E, and also the NYR affiliate) so he can serve a one game suspension following a crosscheck to the face of Florida Everblades forward Brandon Coalter in our last regular season match.

Also, rumor is Boults is looking at buying property down here - whether he plans on permanently relocating or not is unknown and he hasn't made an indication of whether he plans on returning to us next year. Can't say I wouldn't mind having him back - he's become a fan favorite, for one. And, while a marginal NHLer, his talents are more than enough to make an impact in the ECHL.

Pictures of Eric in action for us are available at Martial Image. The 2-11-05 game is a good one to look at, as you can see a shot of Boulton "raising the roof" after being named the game's First Star for scoring a game winner against the Louisiana Icegators. Otherwise, just browse through - Boulton wears 24 for us.

Is he playing responsible defense too? Are the goals on the powerplay, or him jumoing up on a rush?

Campbell has been disappointing defensively ever since his production cooled down in the regular season. He's soft as foam, took a goal against yesterday by losing a one-on-one as the last man even though the forward didn't cover the puck. His decision-making is better than his success rate, though.

His points aren't all on power play, but mostly after the team gets similar pressure on, not on rush. The team's powerplay units both revolve around a super-skilled playmaker (Glen Metropolit and Valtteri Filppula) and a quarterback (Campbell and Sami Lepistö). Campbell has mostly played on the second unit with Filppula but yesterday his point was due to cooperation with Metropolit.

I disagree, I believe the only goal he was on ice was Palsola's goal, he made a mistake in cutting to middle but it wasn't due to being soft. I think physically he handles himself reasonable well, he'll never be a force in that sense but he has improved as the season has progressed to the point of not being a liability (having rock-steady Väänänen as his pair helps too.) Heck, game 3, four on four, Jokerit up 2 to 1, 90 seconds to go, Kärpät pulls the goalie and guess who is on the ice?

But let's just agree he sucks so we can keep him

Satan won the Slovak League championshop and was the most productive player (18 games, 15+7) in the playoffs and the MVP of the playoffs.
