If you can't take any salary back would you want a 2nd a prospect? I can't see us giving up a 1st.
Maybe Spacek will be traded once Markov comes back.
In an ideal world, we're looking for cheap gritty/big third/fourth line guys and right wingers. After that, picks, after that prospects. We've got a log jam of people who will be ready to come up to the NHL from the farm in the next few years and we've got Kesler and the Sedins for the next 4 - 5 years
Only way I could see this happening is if Markov is going to be out for a little more than expected or the habs have an offer for either Hamrlik or Spacek....
Other than that it's not worth the cap space nor does it make sense to have that many D when markov comes back because unlike Streit none of Markov, Spacek, Hamrlik, Bieksa, Obyrne, Gill, Gorges can play on the fourth line and I sure as hell hope they don't plan on putting Subban in that position as well....
.....oh right, one more scenario...Markov to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan
lmao I go on Vacation, and rumors of Tinordi and a pick for Bieksa happen? Why not throw in Eller, Leblanc and Subban in the mix just to make sure we desperately get Bieksa, because you know hes an allstar dman, with star potential and could totally build around him. Not to mention hes locked up forever. LOL
Come on Canuck fans I thought you were smarter than this
On Willie Mitchell, Kevin Bieksa, and Paul Mara...
I am a huge Willie Mitchell fan. I am hearing Vancouver is still a viable option should the Canucks move Bieksa to San Jose or Montreal. Many felt Mitchell would be a King however, and still could be a King...but he isn't yet, and that has led to speculation a deal fell through and that the Kings may turn to Paul Mara. I know, if healthy, Mitchell was the Capitals target. He is exactly what is needed in Washington.
Then this morning enter the Canadiens...They are losing Paul Mara, and realizing their size on the defensive side of things may have been their downfall in the Philly series, they are now also interested in Willie Mitchell.
On Montreal and Price...
The two sides are apart on years. Price wants a one year deal, maybe two, while the Canadiens are looking upward of five. My question is "When does a goalie in the situation Price is in ever want LESS Years?" Price has NOT proven himself, and yet has been handed the keys to one of the premiere franchises in all of sports...and he want LESS years???
I continue to hear from sources up north, Antti Niemi could very well be the fall-back plan in Montreal. It would be quite the coup to get the Cup winning goalie after giving up Halak.
What part of Markov-O'Byrne, Spacek-Subban, Gill-Gorges and Hamrlik with 4 mil of cap space does Eklund refuse to understand? We don't have the room or money to add defensmens.
Hamrlik to NYI for a 3rd round pick
Mitchell to MTL on a 3yr/3m contract
Simple as pie!
Honestly, given his lack of conditioning and the fact that he's depended on as our #2 (ugh) and fails miserably offensively (2 ppg ALL OF LAST SEASON), Hamrlik should be ashamed that he cashes in those gigantic checks. For a period of time he was the second highest paid Hab in our entire history. Dump him, waive him, anything.
